Just got my BFP!
Hi everyone,
I just got my BFP yesterday and I am still in shock!
I was hoping someone could help me out about the next step. I know your supposed to go for blood work, right?. Do I go to my Ob/Gyn or regular doctor?
I am dying to tell my parents and talk to someone, but DH and I agreed we should wait till we hear a heart beat- at what week can we expect that?

Congratulations!!!
Some doctors have you come in for blood work, but some just tell you to make your first appointment for around 8 weeks and come in then. If you have a regular period and know when your last period was, it's easy to date the baby. If you're irregular, you might come in right away to have a beta blood test done to give you an idea about how far along you are. Do you already have an OB? Give them a call tomorrow and tell them the great news! They'll direct you how they practice as far as the next step goes.
As far as a hb goes, most offices won't have you in before 7 or 8 weeks since there isn't much you can see before then. At that first appointment they'll take blood and you'll have your first sonogram (usually an internal) -- you should be able to see and hear the heartbeat then.

I am actually in the process of switching OB's. I have an appt with Dr. Trongone on Friday (I will be a new patient and am scheduled for my annual), so I will definitely call tomorrow and see what they suggest.
Since coming off BC in Jan, my cycles have been regular and I know exactly when I O'd so I figured my EDD is around Jan 5th.
I am sure I will have tons of questions very soon and look forward to chatting with you ladies!

My EDD with DD was 1/7 and she was born one day early! So crazy that she'll be 2 when you have your baby!!!
I'm due in October with #2.
Since you're moving to a new office, they might do a blood draw now. How exciting to tell them you're pregnant!!!
We found out on May 10, 2010 that I was pg with DD. My cycles were REALLY crazy irregular and I was almost 6 weeks by the time we found out. Amazing you already know so early!
Congrats again and feel free to FM if you have any questions about the timeline! (Like we found out in August that we were having a girl... I had my baby shower in early November lol...) It was nice being mostly pregnant in the winter, too -- I was always soooo warm and could just step outside! This time it's going to be mostly summer and it's going to be uncomfortable lol.

Congrats!!! I think I was 5w6d when we first heard the heartbeat (via internal sono). It's the best sound ever!!! Hope you get your first appointment soon!!

Congratulations on your BFP!!
Each doctors office is slightly different. I had my first appointment at 6 weeks and we saw the heartbeat (didn't hear it). We heard it at my 11 week appointment.
Congrats again and i hope you have an easy pregnancy!

Congrats and welcome!! Definitely call your new doctor and they'll let you know what process they follow.
I was 7.5 weeks at my first appt and we saw a flicker (heartbeat) via an internal sono. We didn't hear the heartbeat until the next appt at 12 weeks, but every doctor has different equipment / procedures.

I called my new Dr. today and they cancelled my appt on Friday and they scheduled my first prenatal visit on May 25th. I will be 8 weeks then, so I guess we will probably see HB at that time!
They also said there's no need for blood work, is that normal?
I'm so excited, idk how I'm going to be able to wait until next month!

There's no need for bloodwork before the first appointment. I think it would be unusual not to have any blood drawn at your first appointment.
Time to count the days! It feels like FOREVER!!! I had to wait from 2/4 to 2/29 for my first appointment this pregnancy and it felt like FOREVER!!!
Did you start taking a prenatal vitamin? That's the main thing for now!
