Car Seat Position
This may be a silly question but I am going to be a first time mom and seem to be lost on everything. I just got our car seat as a gift at my shower and I am wondering where is the best place to install it. I read an article that it is best in the rear middle seat but it was an old article and I know things can change so often. It does make sense that the middle is safest. Where will you be installing your seat?

rear middle is safest. rear facing till 2 years old.

I had been planning on doing the middle seat. However, a friend who has the same car and carseat as me (civic and chicco keyfit) just had hers installed by the state troopers and they said for a civic it should be behind the passenger seat. So I guess that's what we'll do.

I believe the safest correct position is rear facing middle. However, I know a lot of people who will do rear facing passenger side just for convenience as it is harder to get the car seat in and out from the middle. Also, if you have a mini-van, there is no middle so passenger side is acceptable.

I believe that the middle is supposed to be safest; however, in my old Trailblazer the LATCH system wasn't in the middle & it was recommended that I place the seat behind the passenger seat. My new truck has captain seats in the back, so this baby will also be placed behind the passenger seat.

. Exactly we have a Honda pilot and it says to install on passenger side. Each vehicle is different!

Good to know! We also have a Civic and registered for the keyfit. I'll double-check our manual, but that is really helpful info. Thanks!

Exactly.
Our carseat is behind the passenger seat and the 2nd carseat will be behind the drivers side.

It all depends on your car. I have a Maxima... the Manual says if youre using the LATCH system that you can not use the middle. We put it on the rear passenger side. I would check your car Manual to see what it says.

I thought the safest place was the middle, and my car manual said to place in the middle. My husband had it perfect- or so we thought. So when I went to get it checked by CarSeat Safety Chris, he moved it to rear passenger. There are many factors that need to be taken into account when installing a carseat and the only way to know for sure is having it professionally installed. It's free. 516-571-9664.
