Re: unpaid maternity leave

Im not getting paid and there is no vacation time for me to take since our preschool is closed like a regular school and we dont get paid for that either. Im leaving in April and not going back, if I do, until Sept. I saved a ton of money for this reason and will only get disability.

Re: unpaid maternity leave

I didn't get paid for any part of my leave with my first DC, but I saved up beforehand so I could stay home about 6 months.

Re: unpaid maternity leave

I work part time and am in nursing school so I don't get anything. I'm not even sure I get disability but I'm hoping for that at least. I graduate in May but it would be a miracle if anyone hires me with a prego belly and I probably wouldn't be there long enough anyway. I'm really not sure what we're gonna do but trying to save up some money so I can take 6 weeks at least.

I just wanted to say that I am truly sorry and absolutely disgusted that some of you have to either cut your maternity leave short or take time unpaid. It is so absolutely UNFAIR! Vent over!Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: unpaid maternity leave

I had planned on a 12 week leave 6 paid and 6 unpaid. But baby had other ideas and I was out from 32 weeks on. Delivered in my 37th week and didn't go back until she was almost 12 weeks old. Went a total of almost 18 weeks. 6 paid @ reg pay, started collecting disability @ 34 weeks and got it until 8 weeks pp (c-section). The rest was completely unpaid. It was rough but it was worth it for me to be home as long as I could. Plus I had to pay for my benefits out of pocket for the last month...that was a killer.

I'm using my sick/vacation time so like 2-3 weeks which has to get used first.

then the 6 or 8 weeks disability, I bought the disability plan from work.

Re: unpaid maternity leave

I plan on taking my 12 weeks. I get the state disability along with my aflac payment which will definitely help while I'm out.

Wow, that is awesome!!

I am leaving for a much larger company soon for better work/life balance and the maternity benefits are not nearly as good as what my current small company has. Chat Icon

Re: unpaid maternity leave

I am taking 10 weeks with DS#2
6 weeks paid if V delivery and 8 weeks paid if C so either 4 or 2 weeks unpaid.

With DS#1 I took 12 weeks and paid for 6 since DS was a V delivery and no pay for 6 weeks

But for the paid time 30 days or 40 days depending on delivery are paid from using my sick days

oh thats great that you get 100% pay for disability. I believe mine is half, for the same amount of weeks you mentioned
