Kinda embarassing, I am very sad...

This is baby #2 and our DD is 6.5 years old.

We did save some gear in case we ever had another child. Obviously some of it is not usable such as the infant car seat becasue of the expiration date. Some of it I was hoping to use again.

We do have storage issues. We live with my FIL and all of their family items from years ago are in the attic eaves, and there is no basement and no garage. When we moved in 3+ years ago FIL built us a shed and that is where we store most of our things.

I jsut went to get the bouncer and the travel swing so that I could wash the coverings since I am starting to wash the baby items. They were all covered in mold. The activity mat too.

I am so sad about this. And of course I feel like an idiot because I allowed them to be stored out there for lack of a better place for them inside.

Is there any way that they are salvagable? Or will they need to be replaced? I know that the coverings come off and can be washed which is what I was going to do anyway, but I don't know about doing this now that I've discovered mold...do I need to add these items to the long list of things that we need for this baby?

im so sorry that happened.... but i personally would not use those items since they have had mold on them.

you are better off buying off of craighslist and then sanitizing if you do not have the means to buy brand new.

I'm sorry but def. wouldn't use anything that had mold on it. Try Once Upon a Child in Sayville. We have gotten all sorts of goodies there for great prices. Also, is BRU still doing their trade in event, I think they'll take anything!

Oh man that really sucks!

I would discard and get new (or pre owned) items. Check the Buy/Sell/Swap board on Parenting. Chat Icon

Re: Kinda embarassing, I am very sad...

Same thing happened to my bouncy seat and jumperoo. DH didn't wrap it in plastic and it was trash. You can get a used bouncy seat in perfect condition for 12-15$ so IMO it isn't worth using something moldy for a newborn. I'm sorry you are so upset, but they are just things try not to let it get to you. Chat Icon

Just so you know, the BRU trade in event is going on until Feb 20th and you get 25 % off for each item you trade. It can be from different catagories or the same.

If it's just the coverings, contact the manufacturer. Sometimes you can buy new coverings.

Re: Kinda embarassing, I am very sad...

Thank you everyone. I am definately not going to use any of it. I have so many reasons not to --- my DH and DD both have severe asthma and my DD is allergic to so many things. She had rapid breathing issues when she was born and you just can't take a risk with something like that with a newborn!

I was very emotional when I found it all. The stuff does hold sentimental value for us ... because we used it for my DD 6 years ago and because we've held onto it for so long in hopes that we'd have another child. But I realize that if I got"new" to us items they will still be fine for the new baby. I've called a few friends already and they are willing to loan out some stuff to us since their kids are older.

What made me the most upset was my FIL's reaction. He heard me telling my sister on the phone so he wanted to go out to the shed to look at the stuff. He got really mad at me and said that I was being ridiculous and that all the stuff needs is to be wiped down with a soapy sponge and it would be fine. Chat Icon That is NOT OK with me and it is our child, our decision, and it really pi$$ed me off that he got upset with me.

I am feeling better after speaking with some of my friends. And I will continue to scope out the Buy/Sell/Swap thread on parenting...

There is also a buy/sell board on fb that has some great things. If you would like to be added, send me a fms with your name and I will friend you and add you to the group.

I just got a second swing for my sils house for $15.00. Perfect condition.

Yeah ITA, there are items on there that look brand new! I also got an activity mat that retails for 60 at Marshalls for 24 so maybe take a look there as well.

If you're not already a member, a lot of us are on a buy/sell board on Facebook - everything you could possibly dream of for a fraction of the cost. Just a group of mommies trying to unload their sh!t.
