Exercises that don't involve your feet?

Is it possible? I am trying to lose weight and I was doing ok with my work outs (not horrible, not great).

I just found out I have a stress fracture in my left foot, and I have a soft cast and little bootie thing to wear. So I can't really do anything involving my feet. What can I do to burn calories with the rest of my body? Or should I just concentrate on diet for the next 4 weeks?

Suggestions? Thanks!

Re: Exercises that don't involve your feet?

I had the same thing in Oct. Sorry.
I did nothing for a bit, then started with the recumbent bike, and slowly added in some elliptical. As long as you don't feel pain you are allowed to do it (thats what i was told!)

Can you put any pressure on it?

Upper body weight training. You can do lots of dumbbell exercises seated..you can use the machines as well

Re: Exercises that don't involve your feet?

Thanks for the replies!!
I can't get a sneaker on it with the soft cast and boot, so I'm thinking the bike is out for now. And I can't get it wet, so swimming is out. I can put pressure on it...just not too much, so I guess weights for my upper body would be the way to go.
So frustrating. I was finally getting motivated to exercise!!

This! and you can also do some pilates mat work there are a lot of exercises that are done lying down. You can also do leg lifts and crunches.

Re: Exercises that don't involve your feet?

I just got my fracture boot off after 8 weeks but mine was an ankle not the foot. I tried all different exercises but found they hurt. I never realized how much I used my feet till one was out of service. Try weights and such and see how they work for you. For me I had to just concentrate on the diet. I still have 2 more weeks before I can go back to the gym.

I did pilates in an arm cast---I had to modify but it wouldn't be so bad. You would be able to do mat-based pilates.

Re: Exercises that don't involve your feet?

I tore my achilles right after joining the gym. I was going to freeze my membership but decided to try the recumbant bike.
I was in a boot, my foot couldnt move, no flex - solid at the ankle.
I did use the bike (it had to be recumbant though, the others we awkward or hurt), the rope pulling machine, ab machines, and upper body machines... Just try stuff and see what you are comfortable with...

Re: Exercises that don't involve your feet?

I had a stress fracture about 2 years ago so I know how frustrating it could be. I wasn't able to put any pressure on it and was in a soft cast for a couple of weeks. Its boring but the arm bike worked for me as cardio, as much as I hated it and I also did seated weights, pliates and yoga just to keep myself active. Once I was able to apply a little pressure, I started using the bike.

Good luck with everything and the best advice I could give is to take it easy on it. I hobbled on it for a week before going to the doctor and then tried to rush back too soon and made it worse, I was in that stupid boot for what seemed like forever

Re: Exercises that don't involve your feet?

you can still do a full routine...... for example you can lay flat on a bench and do cruches, then go right into bicycles, then go right into leg lifts- then grab light dumbbells and do seated curls, seated over head presses, seated bench presses, and lateral raises, then do 1 arm back rows..... if you go thru this circuit 4-6x in 1 workout session you will def be sweating and burn ALOT of calories.... if you need anymore help dont be shy to ask!!!!
