Lack of Energy Question

How do you deal with the lack of energy?

Basically, since I got pregnant, I was exhausted and getting morning sickness. Then I came down with a terrible cold and basically slept 24/7. 10 days later, I still have it. I feel like, it is a HUGE CHORE to just wake up in the morning- take a shower and get myself dressed. Lately, that has been an accomplishment.

But, before pregnancy, I was a super achiever. I multi-tasked beyond belief. I exercised. I cooked elaborate meals. I cleaned the house to an OCD extent. I ran all our errands quickly. I was always doing something, accomplishing something, and now... I feel like I literally just breathe. I no longer exercise, the house is a complete mess, I always want to just go out to eat, I make DH run the errands and I never get anything accomplished.

Am I alone, or has this happened to you as well? How do you handle it? How do you manage to get things done (or do they just not get done now)?

Re: Lack of Energy Question

1st trimester I was in bed before 10 every night.

You need to listen to your body. This is temporary. If you feel like you need to slow down, just do it. If you are sick, that just adds to it. I had bronchitis for 2 weeks and I was SHOT.

If this is your first baby, you need to get used to the idea of letting go a little. My apartment was SPOTLESS pre-kids. You can definitely have a clean house. My house, for the most part, is always clean. But there are times where I just can't keep up with it, as I would like. Pregnancy and the newborn phase are part of those times. But it always gets done when I feel better.

Take care of yourself. You owe it to you and your baby. And don't feel bad about it. Chat Icon

this is me EXACTLY! nothing you can do really. I just sleep when I can and take breaks during the day. I am so tired to do anything, can't wait for it to end . Plus MS hit couple of days ago , not bad, but it's there and I feel like cr*** all the time now.

I agree. I wasn't spotless but I was always doing something.
The energy should come back soon in the second tri.

Re: Lack of Energy Question

Some days are better than others. Sometimes I need to nap during the day. Other days I feel fine and I really try to use that to my advantage. it helps that hubby likes to clean and do laundry.

It gets better just Take it one day at a time and rest when you feel you need to.

Re: Lack of Energy Question

Actually I felt the same way you felt and was the same way you were pre-preggo ~ it is sooo hard but listen to your body if it needs rest ~ rest up ~ I am 16 weeks and there is a light at the end of the tunnel ~ I am starting to feel better ~ I am still tired ect but not feeling as bad as before. Hang in there ~ it will get better! Chat Icon

Re: Lack of Energy Question

you are not alone! for about 2 weeks now (from before i even got a positive result) i have felt like this. and now im sick with a bad cold or maybe pregnancy congestion and i have to force myself to make a meal. i am so tired at 9 every night (and used to go to bed around 12). i feel so lazy/tired that i hardly want to get off the couch to go to the bathroom. ive been worried about the same thing that if this is how it is now, what will it be like as time goes on! anyway, you are not alone!

eta: i feel that its also tough because people at work dont know yet and not that i want to use this as an excuse, i would atleast like someone to know im not in a good mood, cant help a million people like i used and run around like i used because of something other than just being cranky. but i dont want to say anything until i go to the dr.

do you still have the cold 10 days later or just the no energy? if it's the cold...go see your primary care doc immediately!!! I just saw mine and I was put on antibiotics for a really bad sinus infection.
Feel better and rest up - sleep is so important for pregnant women...take advantage and enjoy it while you can!
