What will my first OB appointment be like?
I'm going next week so I think I'll be around 4 or 5 weeks pregnant, but I'm not sure. I'm assuming the dr. will do a blood test to confirm pregnancy. Do I have to fast beforehand? The appt. is early morning so I probably will just in case.
Also, will the doctor do a sonogram to make sure everything is ok, or is it way too early?

You dont have to fast for this blood test. I had my first sono at 6wks. It might be too early for you. Basically my first Dr. appt. consisted of them gathering my history and asking questions.

Re: What will my first OB appointment be like?
Every office is different, but here is how my first appointment with DS went. This pregnancy was alot different because I was having trouble.
I went in and had a sono that was done by the doctor. (The other sono are done by sono tech). Then I remember going into his office and talking to him about the pregnancy. He asked Dh and I are medical history. They do blood work, and give you a due date. They may also do a pap if you are due for one.
Oh wait I just read you are going in at 4-5 weeks. My office doesn't take you till 7-8 weeks. Not sure what they do that early on. I doubt you will get sono. Probably just blood work.

Re: What will my first OB appointment be like?
i went in at exactly 4wks to confirm with urine test but it was too early to see anything (although she tried), i was told i was in the very early stages and she pointed some things out like which side i ovulated on. i was due for my regular check-up the following month so we just got that out of the way too.

Re: What will my first OB appointment be like?
4 weeks is too early to see anything on sono. 5 weeks you can ususlly see yolk and sac. 6-7 weeks is when the heartbeat can be detected.
If your that early they may just do a blood test and maybe a sono to see what they detect to get a better idea of how far along you are exactly.
The dr will give you info about foods to avoid, any rx or over the counter stuff to avoid and info on the practice also answer your questions.

Re: What will my first OB appointment be like?
thanks ladies! I really don't know how many weeks I am because the last time I got my period was 12/25, which would make me 5 weeks, but I don't think I O'd until cd26, around 1/19, so I might actually only be 4 weeks. So I can't wait to see the doctor so she can tell me.

Re: What will my first OB appointment be like?
With both pregnancies, my first appointment was an annual exam and Q&A session. I also got a form for the first round of blood work, which I had done at a lab. My first appointment was around 7 weeks. I had my first sono at the next appointment.
