IMO, yes between weeks 14-20 (approximately). When you can most certainly find the hb, but before baby starts kicking. After that point, he/she will def let ya know they are alive and kicking- literally!

I think it's a waste and will just make you worry of you have a hard time finding heart beat.

Yes. I bought one off of ebay from a medical supply company in Chicago for $50. IMO totally worth it! I was able to hear the heartbeat at 13 weeks.

This. I'm 32 weeks and still pull mine out when I feel she's quiet. Definitely worth it! Anid if this is your first you're sure to get more use out of it with other pregnancies.

Re: fetal dopplers, are they worth it?
for me its the best thing i ever bought in my life.
that being said i didnt know i had an anterior placenta..... which makes it harder to hear and feel the baby so in the beginning i couldnt find hb and kept freakkkkkking out bc soooo oooo many other pg women were finding it much earlier.
i am almost 27 weeks now...and since maybe 14 weeks i ahve heard the baby and bc i have previous losses its sooooo cool and reassuring to hear him after a long day at work or when i am very nervous.
hey its 60 bucks so lol

Yep. I agree also. If you use it too soon it can def. cause stress if you cant find the HB. But after 14wks or so its very easy to find. I think I would be more stressed if I didnt have the doppler.

Re: fetal dopplers, are they worth it?
i keep going back and forth on whether or not to buy one. Im just afraid of not being able to find the hb and then freaking out ! im almost 16w so im sure i should be able to hear it by now, but im already a nervous wreck all the time. i dont need extra stress lol, but at the same time i might be able to find the hb and it could be really comforting. im going to ask my doc and sono tech about it this week

Re: fetal dopplers, are they worth it?
I bought a real babybeat.com doppler over 6 years ago when pregnant with #1. At the time, it was like $399
I used it for all three of my pregnancies and my sister used it for her pregnancies as well.
It was the greatest investment I ever made! Just having it there for peace of mind in the early weeks. It was never hard to hear the heartbeat and I heard #3's at 9 weeks. I told the sono tech when I went for my first sonogram and she said since its so strong- I can skip an internal sono and she was able to do the external sono (I hate those internals )
I wanted to sell it, but now that we are on the fence about #4, I'm holding onto it a little longer!
