estimated vs. actual
I just had my 35w growth sono and they told me that baby weighs about 5 1/2 lbs. so I am thinking this might be a big baby.
how big did they estimate your baby was going to be and were they correct or were they way off?

Re: estimated vs. actual
I had a sono about an hour before they called for an emergency c-section.
Sono estimated baby at 3lbs 10oz (8 weeks premature, FYI).
Actual was 3lbs 6oz. So it was VERY VERY close.
But I've heard of the estimates being very far off if baby has a slightly larger head or if there's a lot of fluid etc. So it depends.

Re: estimated vs. actual
At 39 weeks they estimated DS to be 6lbs, 10oz. He was born a week later at 8lbs, 4oz, which seems like an awful lot to gain in a week. So I don't really put too much faith in these estimates.

Re: estimated vs. actual
I had a growth sono a little after 30 weeks and was told DD was weighing in at about 4 lbs. I ended up delivering her a little over 2 weeks later and she was 4 1/2 lbs so I think they were pretty close.

Re: estimated vs. actual
My tech at 38weeks with DS said he was going to be about 7.5lbs. It was born at 39 weeks at 8lbs 2ozs.
It depends on the tech. My friend's son was supposed to be 9lbs according to her tech, and her son was born at 40weeks 2 days, and weighted 7lbs.

Re: estimated vs. actual
At 37w they etimated 7 pounds. My DD was born at almost 41w at 6 pound 2 ounces. Wasn't accurate for me.

Re: estimated vs. actual
They were worried DS was going to be small, between 6-7lbs. I had to be monitored every week towards the end. He ended up being 7lbs 4oz. at 39.5 weeks. I thought he was on the small side.

Re: estimated vs. actual
With my first, he told me while I was in labor that the baby would "definitely be over 8 lbs." and he was 7lbs12oz. With my second, the doctor said almost exactly the same thing during a sono the week before he was born, and he was born at 9lbs3oz. They always say it can go a pound in either direction (which is a lot!), but I've also heard of stories where it was even further off than that. Don't stress it!

Re: estimated vs. actual
I was induced at around 38 weeks - they said DD was going to be around 4 pounds. She ended up being 5 pounds 6 ounces so for me they were not really close.

Re: estimated vs. actual
I had a sono the day before DD was born. They estimated her to be "at least 8lbs." Well, she was 5lbs 14oz when she was born. She had a big head, so that threw everything off.

Re: estimated vs. actual
I had many sonos with my 1st pregnancy because of my Gestational Diabetes and the fact that she was measuring big.
Two days before my c-section they estimated 10-3 and she ended up being 9lbs 10 oz.
