Another Pediatrician Question
Do they visit you in the hospital when the baby is born?
When do you first bring your child to the pediatrician?

They do visit you in the hospital definitely once - I think mine came twice.
Once Dc is born and once before you get discharged.
My doctor had us bring DD in for a check up one week after being discharged and then at one month old

If my pediatrician is far out in suffolk are they going to come if I deliver at north shore hospital and they are not affiliated with that hospital?

The hospital will ask you who your ped is and they will call them. Ours came once for dd. HTH

If your ped is not affiliated with your hospital, they will not see the baby in the hospital. If they don't have rights at that hospital they are not allowed to see patients there. One of the peds from the hospital will come see your baby while they are in the hospital, then when you get home you will take baby to your ped. Also the hospital will only call doctors that are affiliated with that hospital. So you will have to call your ped. And they will tell you when to bring baby in. Probably that first week when they are home.

The ped will only come to a hospital they are affliated with and have right to. When my dd was born the ped I was using at the time did not have rights in St. Charles so my dd was seen everyday by a peditrician who was associated with the hospital. Once you are released from the hospital you need to call your ped and make an appt for your dc to be seen by him/her. When you are discharged they will give you paperwork including proof of hep vaccine if you get one, a hearing test and a few other things.

Like the PP mentioned, the hospital will call your pediatrician once DC is born. If your ped has privileges at the hospital, he/she will come and check on your DC while you are there. If not (or if your baby is in the NICU), the resident ped will take care of your DC and once discharged, you will be given all medical records which you will have to bring to your first pediatrician's appointment. You will need to follow up with your ped at their office within a week or so of being discharged.

My peds came every day we were in the hospital. Once discharged, we went at one week old and then two weeks old for a weight check.

I don't believe I did. I had a form that your OB will give you and you give it to the hospital when you are admitted.

I didn't have too - just make sure they are accepting new patients.

This.
When you interview peds they will go over this with you. DS was seen by an in house ped but one of the peds from our practice cleared him for this circumcision since she is on staff there part time.
