Anterior Placenta

I'm 20 weeks and 3 days and still have not felt the baby - went to the dr yesterday and found it I have an anterior placenta which is most likely why I'm not feeling . I'm relieved that obviously it's nothing terrible - but don't know anything about an anterior placenta. Anyone have this?? Is there any other disadvantages or anything to worry about???

I don't have it but from what I've read in the books, I think that the only disadvantage is that its harder to feel the baby move. The baby takes a backseat to the placenta but it doesn't hurt him/her in anyway

I had it.
Other than not feeling much movement, there were no ill effects of it.
The sad part was I barely felt kicks, movements, etc- and DH could NEVER feel her from the outside.

I would get sonos and the tech would be like- oh big kick just now- and I'd be like what? I felt nothing!

It definitely made me worry - because I couldn't feel movement like everyone else- but in the end it was not harmful to the baby or me.

the best way it was described to me...imagine a pillow between your stomach and the baby...and the baby is kicking...that's why you can't feel kicks. i had it with dd and i was an extreme case and didn't feel her move til like 26 weeks!! i was petrified! thankfully everything was okay, but man that def sucked with this pregnancy i must not have it cause i started feeling at 14ish weeks i believe yours should move to the right position soon!

Had it with my first, not my second.

1st baby- didn't feel her move until about 22 weeks. and it was never a ton of movement, until the big rolls towards the end. at 29 weeks, I freaked out one day because I could not feel her. Dr called me in, they did a sono and he saw some big kicks, and i was feeling nothing.

2nd baby- felt her around 14 weeks. She moved like crazy! I had a ton of fun feeling her move around in there.

I miss being pregnant!

It will take longer to feel baby move. With DS I didn't have it and felt him from about 14 weeks. With this pregnancy I have it and I didn't feel real movement until around 18 weeks. I knew what to look out for so I think that's why I knew it was movement. I started feeling stronger movement at 22, really 23 weeks. At 24 weeks, I feel her move throughout the day, but it's not as much or as strong as it was with DS by this point.

Also, my sono pics are much less clear because of the anterior placenta.

And since I had a c-section with my first, I have to get a followup sono due to the anterior placenta - they want to make sure it's not by the csection scar tissue since that can cause issues.

And if you need a csection, they will just have to check to make sure the placenta is not in the way before they cut you - if it is, they have to act very quickly to get baby out. But otherwise, it shouldn't really affect you. It's just a matter of where the fertilized egg implanted when you got pregnant.

I had it with DS - and I may have it with this pregnancy too (since I didn't feel movement until later on).

There were no ill effects, like the pps said - you just can't feel the baby until later.

This week, at 30 weeks, I can finally see my stomach move. I didn't really start feeling kicks until 24 weeks each time - and they were sporadic. Around 28 weeks, I started to feel more regular movement.

I have it - I just found out last week at the Level 2. I am almost 22 weeks now and am starting to feel stronger movement but it's sporadic.

I don't think there are any medical disadvantages, but I did read that if the placenta does not move up over time, it could end up blocking your cervix (and impeding delivery) and resulting in a mandatory c-section.

i had it and i felt a lot of movement after 20w and even some before 20w. i felt so much movement that i didnt even know that i had an anterior placenta until i delivered!

i have an anterior placenta this time around (was posterior which is typical with my first)

i felt him at 15ish weeks this time around, and felt my first LO at 20weeks! i think it'd different for everyone!

I'm feeling down b/c I have it for this 2nd time around.... to cheer me up, I picture the baby kickboxing and using my placenta as the punching bag lol


Does anyone know if it would interfere with finding out about gender at my anatomy scan???
