Winthrop moms - question

Delivering Chat Icon Chat Icon at Winthrop in 12 days! (OMG!) and realized I have a few questions...

1. I want to breastfeed. Do I need to bring my own pump or will the hospital have one there and accessible for me? This hospital bag is getting awfully full!

2. With this new rooming in policy, what happens if you have a roommate? I mean, if I keep my two screaming newborns with me overnight, how does that let the roommate recover/rest?

3. My DH cannot stay overnight with us, right?

4. Anything you wish you would have known or brought with you that you didn't?

I'm starting to get antsy!

Re: Winthrop moms - question

I delievered there last April, so im not sure how much has changed...

1. I want to breastfeed. Do I need to bring my own pump or will the hospital have one there and accessible for me? --*They had one in the room. It was the Medela Symphony I believe.

2. With this new rooming in policy, what happens if you have a roommate? I mean, if I keep my two screaming newborns with me overnight, how does that let the roommate recover/rest?
*From what I understand, they try to give everyone their own room, but if they are full, they will start doubling up. Im not sure about the rooming in thing with keeping the babies since I believe that is a more recent change.

3. My DH cannot stay overnight with us, right?
*DH stayed with me the first night because I delivered at midnight and I had to sleep in L&D because of some problems. Other than that, no he wasnt allowed to stay with me. I think he had to leave by 10pm.

4. Anything you wish you would have known or brought with you that you didn't
*They were pretty good with giving you what you needed. Some things I was glad I brought were my own toothbrush and toothpaste, nightgown, boppy, pillow, oh and keep room in your bag so you can bring home your stash of stuff you take from the hospital lol.

Re: Winthrop moms - question

Crashing!

1) Winthrop has pumps. Try BFing from the breast first though.

2) Your roommate's baby will wake you up, and your babies will wake up your roommate. Good times.

3) Nope, your DH can't stay over. It's a small bed, so it's just as well - no place for him to sleep.

4) Bring a set of PJs for a warm night and one for a cold night. I have no idea whether it was my pp hormones or the thermostat in the room, but my room was either 1000 degrees or freezing. I was forewarned, and was very grateful.

eta: to Mrs2010 - There are very few private rooms (I think they've got 2) so don't bank on getting one. The hospital will try to keep one person per room if they can.

I had heard a rumor (a few years back) that Winthrop was going to try and make all the rooms private, but I guess that never happened.

I knew you ladies would know the answer!!! Chat Icon
