Glucose Test
Hi,
I am taking the Glucose test tomorrow at 9am. I am going to a quest diagnostics lab to do it. It was an automated system and now I don't know if I have to fast beforehand. Can anyone let me know???

Yep, I just has it about 3 weeks ago. Some people don't fast, but my dr wanted me to. I passed.

My doctor told me that for the one hour test you do not need to fast. I had mine at 1 o'clock and did eat a light lunch beforehand.
For the 3-hour test I fasted from 8pm the night before until the morning of the test (started the test at 8:30 so it was jsut about 12 hours!)

I have it coming up in 2 weeks. My doctor told me to fast for 1 hour before I drink the solution. Hth!

I think it depends on your Dr. Mine had me fast after 10 pm.

My doctor told me not to fast but also not to eat a lot of sugary stuff beforehand. I took it right before lunch and had raisin bran for breakfast and then an egg for a snack.

They told me to fast. Im taking mine at 10:15am tomorrow! (but at LapCorps). Good luck to us both!

From what I understand, there are two different tests or expected results based on fasting/non-fasting. I did mine at 4 pm after a full day of eating. I passed. Some tests do require fasting, but I was specifically told to not fast.

I have mine too tomorrow at 9am at quest and my doctor said nothing to me but I fasted anyway

my dr. told me I did not have to fast...
for DS#1 I failed the 1 hour but passed the 3 hour
for DS#2 I passed the 1 hour
I did not fast for any of the tests ever.

With DS I had the 1 hour glucose test and I didn't need to fast. I did it after work (like 5:30pm) and had a regular lunch around 1pm. I passed.
This time, the new recommendation there is to do the 2 hour glucose test and my paperwork says:
Must have an early AM appointment, no food or drink after midnight (not even water).
I would call your OB's office and ask them what they recommend. My OB gave me a paper with instructions otherwise I probably would have done an afternoon appointment and had lunch like the first time, which would have sucked because then I would have had to reschedule.

My appt is at 9:30am. I was told that I should eat breakfast before 8:30am as I should not eat anything within 1 hour of the test.
