Anyone else not having a shower for DC #1?

Traditionally, Jewish women don't have baby showers. It is considered bad luck, or tempting the evil eye to prepare for the baby before he/she arrives. You aren't supposed to keep anything in the house for the baby. Usually, the nursery isn't even ready. We plan on painting the nursery, and having the furniture held until baby is here.

I never expected to have a shower, but I'm generally a prepared person, so this is stressing me out! I keep thinking about everything we're going to need and how much I'm going want to have a beautiful nursery all set before baby comes home.

I will probably have a work shower, and leave any gifts at my ILs' house.

Am I the only LIFer not having a shower?

We are undecided. My MIL wants to throw me one since my mom died last year. Honestly, i dont feel up to it because she cant be here. Plus, my family is very supersticious and doesnt usually do baby showers.
So I have no clue, I am still registering though because faily has asked me. Good luck with your decision!

As a fellow Jewish mom who did not have a shower, my advice, is to buy stuff and store it in your parents house. I will be 100% honest. It was a complete PIA not to have everything ready and here. You will need a car seat and base to leave the hospital so you will need to buy that yourself. Also it is nice to have a stroller to walk around and do things once the baby is born. By not having a shower I had to run out with a week old baby to get stuff. Yes, we got clothing and GCs but I had so much work to do when I got home from the hospital. I really regret listening to my mom about this. G-d willing I will be a grandma one day and I will happily throw my daughter and DIL a baby shower. I know how well meaning everyone was but truthfully, it was horrible not having things here. My mom, MIL and my grandma got DS a layette set so we had clothing. I got a few things before. DS did have a bris, but he got mostly $$$ and clothing, not the basic necessities. I would either have a shower, or go buy everything yourself and keep it at your parent's house if you are that superstitious.

I'm Jewish, but DH isn't. My mom threw me a shower. We stored all of the gifts at her house even though she lives in NY and I live in CT. We moved into our house 5 days before my induction. My parents brought up all of the essentials then and more stuff as they came up over the next few weeks.

I didnt have a shower for the same reason. I had the walls painted and furniture placed in the room. I ordered all the major things I needed and had them delivered the week I was due. It would have been nice to have everything set up prior to the birth but it all eventually came together...when she was 5 months ...but it's beautiful now!

I am Jewish and did not feel comfortable having a shower with my first. We did have the room set up with furniture and had clothes. It would have been a little stressful getting all that done after the baby comes home, but it can be done. These are the items you absolutely NEED:
carseat
bassinet
onesies/clothes
diapers/wipes/diaper cream
swaddle blankets
bottles
baby wash
Most of these items can be left at a parents house and brought to you once the baby is born. Babies don't actually need all the stuff we buy , at least not right away. HTH!
