Am I overreacting?

I posted earlier in the week, that my intern came into work with the flu.... She took off Monday and Tuesday and came back in today saying she was feeling better.

I told my boss that I asked her not to come into my office for the rest of the week just in case because it really scares me. My boss looked at me as if I had 37 heads and said that she's probably past the incubation period and that I should be fine. I said, that I am not taking any chances, and would rather leave it at her not coming into my office this week.

Do you think I'm overreacting? Or just being careful?

I did not. I decided against it for a few reasons.

Re: Am I overreacting?

Honestly I dont think someone can get over the flu in a couple of days, but im not a dr LOL. I agree with you IF contact with that intern can be avoided I would have said something too. Alot of people dont understand that when your pregnant and get sick its not good. You can hardly take any meds and a cold can last a life time.

Nope not overreacting in my opinion

You are DEF not overreacting! You should never feel that way if you are trying to protect yourself and the baby! Your intern and your boss should be considerate that you are preg and your immunity is low. The flu and being preg. do not by any means go hand in hand. You def. can't get over the flu in 2 days.
Def. stay away if you can!

I didn't get a flu shot and ITA with you, I would not take any chances either. Your job is to protect yourself and your LO, don't worry about what anyone else thinks.

From the CDC:

Most healthy adults may be able to infect others beginning 1 day before symptoms develop and up to 5 to 7 days after becoming sick. Children may pass the virus for longer than 7 days. Symptoms start 1 to 4 days after the virus enters the body. That means that you may be able to pass on the flu to someone else before you know you are sick, as well as while you are sick. Some persons can be infected with the flu virus but have no symptoms. During this time, those persons may still spread the virus to others.

Can I have your intern? He/she sounds like a hard worker.

Honestly... I think that stories like this are why people should get the flu shot.

I agree. I'm kind of a hypochondriac, but the fact is, everyone who you come into contact with (esp. in winter) could be carrying something. Buy something and pass money, open a doorknob, pick up a pen at work...I really feel like the most we can do is wash hands often, use Purell or whatever, and do what you can as a precaution. That said, my nieces and nephews are just constantly sick and snotty during the entire winter, and I secretly cringe whenever I see them.
