Talk to me about VBAC

I had my 15 week appt yesterday and the topic of vbac came up. I would love to try for a vb. My OB is going to speak with the dr who delivered DS to see if I' a good candidate. She said with a VBAC I will have to labor at the hospital. I have to go into labor on my own. Anything else that's different than my last labor experience?

Re: Talk to me about VBRAC

I had a vbac with my DD, back in 2006. My 1st was a c/s because he was breech. I could not be induced, I had to go into labor on my own, I was allowed to try up until 41 weeks and the baby's size was monitored real close (since my first baby was 9 lbs 7 oz and early).

I had been hoping to do a vaginal birth again with #3, but with my high blood pressure, gestational diabetes and other issues, we are leaning more towards another c/s, but nothing is set in stone yet.

I meant vbac. Sorry I'm still getting used to the term. I changed it in my post.
How soon did you have to go to the hospital. Do you wait until your contractions are so many minutes apart?

No problem! I just got confused!!

My contractions came on one night, and they were pretty hard and close together. When I called my OB to tell him I "thought" I was in labor, he told me if didn't matter what I thought, since I going for the vbac, he wanted me in there to monitor and assess. He happened to be at the hospital that night already, so it really worked out. I got there and was checked by a resident and I was already 7 cm! I begged for the epidural and after they got me an IV, I was able to get it. It was heaven. I had the epidural on the whole time while I was pushing. It was great. I did push for 3 hours, which is tiring, but never once was there any issue and everything was successful and a textbook case!

Re: Talk to me about VBAC

So you go to the hospital as soon as you have contractions? With my last pregnancy my dr told me I had contractions on Tues but I didn't deliver till thurs. Does that mean I have to be monitored that whole time? It could be days.
How was the recovery time for the vbac compared to the cs? I want to try for a vbac because I have an 18 month old at home. There's no way I can lift or carry him the first few weeks if I have a cs.
