Wrong Price at Grocery Store
Few things irritate me more than when the item I am buying doesn't ring up at the sale price. I have to watch like a hawk at Stop and Shop.
Today, my sale item rang up full price and I received it totally free - they said it was a policy.
Question - is this a policy at other grocery stores? Is there a law or anything? I remember something on the news about them cracking down on this in NYC, so not sure if there is something in the city or not?
And, I do apologize to people behind me in line because I will hold up the line for my 40 cents off bread - its more of a matter of principle to me.

They have to honor the advertised price by law. Unfortunately sometimes there are glitches in the computer system and things ring up wrong, you really have to watch...

I hate when that happens too! I don't always catch mistakes at the register but I always go over my reciept when I get home and I've caught a few errors in the past (always from Stop & Shop) The good thing is at least when I go back the next time I let customer service know and show them the receipt and they always give me back the money I was supposed to save. But its' still a PITA!

Yes other supermarkets do this as well. Computer pricing errors is one of the reasons I do not bag my groceries. I am very good at knowing exactly how much each item is supposed to ring in for, and I watch as each item is scanned.

It depends. There is a supermarket called Shaws in MA and they don't give items for free if the price is wrong. I found an item that rang up a random .06 more than the tag on the shelf and what was on the price tag on the item. It was not a sale price, but a regular price. I know its only .06 but I went to the customer service desk and they just gave me the money back. I asked about the free policy and apparently they just changed it so that its just that you get your money back. I guess it must happen to much there.
It's crap I think and it is stealing. Imagine how many other items its happen on at their store, and how many people don't notice or care enough to get the money back. They are making THOUSANDS off people who don't know any better.

thats pretty good. never got me anything free.
i hate when i get home and realize they charged me wrong - or worse- twice!
i always say im going to watch but between dd and dh i usually never remember

I have gotten lucky at Whole Foods sometimes when they have forgotten to put a price sticker on fruit or veggies. They gave it to me for free.

This happened to me last night at KK. Quite a few items that were on sale this week didn't ring up to the correct sale price, so they honored those prices for me, and took off an additional $5 off of my total purchase. This was a first for me at KK, but this used to happen all the time to me at Pathmark.

I used to work at Pathmark but I don't remember this policy...I o know that if you bring expired food off the shelf up to the counter, they give it to you for free..

this is why i use the scanner gun at Stop and Shop. I like seeing exactly what the price is and how much I've spent to that point. I never heard of that policy.
