johnson & johnson?

ok so SIL was just telling me last night about problems w/chemicals in J&J baby products and not to use them??? carcinogens?

I did a little reading, found it to be mostly verified, but I'm having a hard time accepting that considering they are such a HUGE BRAND for baby products, and I never imagined using anything else!!

and the smell is just unbeatable Chat Icon

anyone else have any opinions/experience with this whole J&J thing?

Re: johnson & johnson?

IDK anything about this but, I dont plan on using them anyway. With my 1st DS he had eczema and I had to use unscented dove to wash him but did use, J&J for shampoo, now I'll just have to use a differ shampoo. I do plan on using dove again.

Re: johnson & johnson?

Everything I've read pretty much shows that it is true about all the bad things in their products. I won't be using any of it, I'll be using organic products. I registered for a couple different brands and I'll see what works best for DS.

Re: johnson & johnson?

so weird, i hate how we can't even choose shampoo without worrying...

cuz i figure i'll use organics also, and was just reading up on earth's best, and it says it's only 70% natural, whereas Johnson's Natural line is 98% natural...

so now I'm REALLY confused!!!!!!!!

Re: johnson & johnson?

I've heard about this too and I'm a little nervous as well. I'm not sure what I will be using, but leaning towards Dove or Cetaphil. I heard many pediatricians are discouraging patients from using J&J, so maybe it is legit...

Re: johnson & johnson?

i just googled j&j and cancer...and it came up...there are 2 ingredients in particular that they talk about...

they aren't in the naturals line, I looked up all the ingredients in the naturals line, and it is 98% natural, and those 2 ingredients are NOT in the 2% of synthetic ingredients.

so I'm thinking I might still stick w/j&j but just not their regular stuff...

Check your products here

The above is a great site to check how your bath products are rated.

For DS we use Mustela Stelatopia which has no parabens or fragrance. He has very sensitive skin. We used to use California baby but he got a rash from it.

I have done research on this as well. It was on the news not to long ago. It is true. My ped rec. Aveeno on dd's skin. He said that J&J could dry out their skin! However, that smell of J&J is amazing.

J & J Makes Aveeno though.. I originally registered for aveeno products but after the whole J & J fiasco I took it off... does anyone have info if aveeno is affected also?

Re: johnson & johnson?

It was on the news about a month ago. J&J shampoo has a cancer causing agent. I never liked their products anyway. DS has horrible excema over the winter and J&J does nothing for moisturizingg. We just switched to Burts Bees and so far so good.

DS didn't do well with their products so we either use aquafor or unscented dove.

Re: johnson & johnson?

Unfortunately, it IS legit. I was using Aveeno (which is made by J&J) and although it's supposedly safe, I felt uncomfortable so I switched to Burts Bees. Even my ped who is extremely laid back and doesn't generally get alarmed by things like this advised against J&J products and said she would not use them on her own toddler/infant. That was all I needed to hear.

Re: johnson & johnson?

I didn't use it with DS and don't plan on using it with DS #2. My friend is a Chemist and said J&J products are one of the worst.

Re: johnson & johnson?

I agree, J&J is one of the worse according to EWG. Aveeno isn't that great either.

Definitely go with the more natural brands like Burt's Bee, Jason or California Baby. That's what I use and got a subscribe and save deal at Amazon.com

If you really love the J&J smell, Phisoderm also has a line of tear free baby shampoo/shower cream that you can use the smells similar.

Re: johnson & johnson?

My SIL also told me about this. She lost her 3 year old to cancer so she switched from J & J to California Baby for her other son. For that reason, maybe I'm more sensitive to hearing this stuff too, but I returned all J & J stuff we got at my shower, and we bought California Baby as well. Lucky for us, we had a gift card to Target bc it's def expensive, but IMO worth it.

Re: johnson & johnson?

I'm not comfortable with anything that's labelled as a possible carcinogen coming near my child/children... We do our best to give DS organic and the washes we use are from organic and fragrance free products ( unless it's an essential oil giving the scent). I have cancer running rampant through my family, including myself, I will anything I can to avoid exposure through environment and ingestible goods... JMHO though.

edited for spelling...

I know it's been a while since this was posted - but I returned all of my Aveeno products because one of the chemicals is found in the bodywash/shampoo. I didn't see it on the lotion ingredients list so I kept those. I am going to try California Baby.

We were using aveeno on DS and although they say its safe and doesnt contain either of the harmful ingredients, i cant buy products from a company that knowingly continues to use these ingredients and potentially make kids sick. Not sure how they sleep at night.

Re: johnson & johnson?

This was all over the news a few months ago and is definately true. There was another J&J product recently, read it last week, blamed for the death of a 1-1/2 yr old. I think the toddler was given J&J grape flavored tylenol and was vomiting blood. He died at the ER. The parents are suing J&J. You can google the article. I think J&J products are crap.
