This is my 1st pregnancy but all my friends and family members have kids and I have heard over and over that the wipes warmer is a waste.

That's funny bc I'm a nanny and have used it before and love it! I have one on my registry now. I have heard that the diaper genie is a huge waste. Personally I'm not registering for any diaper pail bc I think keeping dirty diapers in the bedroom is gross.

Definitely a swing that plugs into an outlet. DD used her swing forever! And it was a total lifesaver.

Re: Must haves/don't really need.....

bouncy seat - LIFE saver for showers (kept DS in the seat while I showered)
Swing with DC plug - DS LIVED in his for the first 4 mo.
Bottle warmer - HUGE help

eta: you will find that A LOT of what they tell you need on your registry is a waste of money and space... Ask for GCs and Diapers... You can never go wrong with those!

You're going to obviously get a million different answers here. Even though this will be my 2nd time, you never know what each baby will like or dislike.

IMO, we LOVED the bouncer/bouncy seat and swing. Also, the wipe warmer which I refused to register for because I had heard it was a waste too, well that ended up being a big hit too. DH felt bad using the cold wipes and ran out and got one when DD was a few weeks old, lol.

I think any of those diaper pails are a complete waste. The idea of waste sitting there just grosses me out. I'm a big fan of tossing those dirty diapers right outside Chat Icon

IMO biggest waste: Bedding set-I never used the bumper or quilt. Just the sheet. Diaper Gene-it grosses me out the thought of dirty diapers sitting in her room all day.

Must have: Swing & bouncer

Love this thread! I am definitely taking my diaper genie off after hearing you ladies.

For those raving about a swing/bouncer, can you please post a link or photo to the one that you have- I would like to add one to my list. TIA :)

Really! Wow, I'm so surprised. I was told by my SIL and 3 friends that it was something that wasnt necessary b/c wipes were room temp.

What is it that you guys like about it? Maybe I should reconsider it. I also agree about the diaper pail. The thought of it gets me sick Chat Icon

You don't need a bedding set its a waste IMO. The things we used the most were the swing, snap n go, high chair, pack n play, changing table, convertible car seat.

Although they may be room temp, the wetness will still make it feel cooler IMO... I sometimes use flushable wipes for myself and they feel cold to me... The warmth of the wipe will also make cleaning up easier (especially with more solid poop that ends up stuck to the child! Chat Icon )

This was our bouncer

The swing: Graco Sweet Peace. You can switch directions and take out the seat and put your carseat in it... HUGE help when coming in the home from the car.

I dont think that one can be plugged in (looks like only batteries according to the demo)... Ive heard that you will go through batteries constantly with the swings...

ETA: The snug-a-bunny can be plugged in

Fisher Price makes swings that can be plugged in. We had the Ocean Wonders for DD. I think the one they have out now has animals. We may do a trade in for the swing and get the newer one for this baby.

Is it true that wipes warmers harbor germs and multiply because of the wet/hot ?
