Going Back to Work?

We saw so much family this weekend and of course everyone had a comment on us planning on using daycare once I return to work (Chat Icon will be 16 wks). It makes me question everything. Anyone else going through this? Chat Icon

Re: Going Back to Work?

My DS will be in daycare starting at about 8 weeks. No one has said anything to us as this has always been the plan. I have zero guilt about this. It is what we need to do to give our child a good life

Re: Going Back to Work?

Yes - especially from older relatives who do not understand how I have to work.

I am really stressing this lately, with baby due date in 34 days (dr thinks maybe sooner!! ) my heart is breaking knowing i have to leave him- i anticipate returning to work being very difficult even though i love my job.

i have to work primarily due to health insurance is outstanding at my job and too much money at my husbands and he has health problems and baby needs insurance too.

i've worked in day care before and know how well take ncare of and well loved the babies can be/are.

i really dont need people's feedback its making it harder. my mil also has offered to babysit but i have concerns about that becuz of boundary issues we've had before but i also think its mostly my own insecurities ../ but i have family members commenting over mil babysitting ideas too .. so i can't win.. according to everyone else whether it be day care or family..i'm doing the wrong thing according to someone somewhere.

Re: Going Back to Work?

We are planning on using day care as well. Although I have gotten plenty of babysitting offers, I would not feel comfortable leaving my DS with just anyone...plus most people work so I would be left looking for a new sitter every week. Daycare is more reliable IMO and I can go to work and not worry about my child (priceless).

ETA: FIL has mentioned me being a SAHM but that would drive me nuts! Since we live with him. Plus, I'm used to making $$ and would def miss the extra income.

Re: Going Back to Work?

I haven't gotten any of these comments luckily. But it's probably because most people know it isn't possible for me to stay home since I make more $ than DH and all the insurance is through my job. I have gotten comments though on not taking more time for maternity leave Chat Icon Everyone has their opinions but don't let anyone sway you in your decisions. You have to do what's right for your family.

Re: Going Back to Work?

I work at a preschool and Im still undecided. I will be home from May til Sept but, I really want to be able to stay home for the 1st yr or 2. Plus I know the girls in the infant room, so does the DH and neither of us want them to care for our baby. So we may have to struggle for atleast a yr or hopefully I can become a nanny/babysitter and stay home for longer.

Re: Going Back to Work?

Don't let people guilt trip or pressure you. At the end of the day, they don't have to live your life and it's easy for them to judge from the outside.

There are great daycares and bad daycares, JUST like there would be great family members and bad family members to watch the baby.

This is something I was stressing about because my mom was also endlessly badgering me about not using a daycare but I HAVE to go back to work and she wasn't quitting any day soon Chat Icon

Luckily, MIL has decided not to go abroad next year (IL's spend half the year in portugal) to watch our baby. I'm so relieved but I would've used daycare. We would've had no other choice because we need both incomes Chat Icon

Re: Going Back to Work?

thanks girls... while I can stay home money would be super tight and I know I will not be happy living this way- I am a worrier and I need extra money to feel financially secure. Plus I work in finance and have a really flexible job where I can leave if necessary and I have a lot of vacation time due to my tenure. I really don't want to give that up and have to start from scratch again a year later, especially in this job market Chat Icon

Hopefully daycare works out once the baby is here!
