curoius.. with dc #1 would you....?

take peoples handmedown car seats/strollers/furniture?

i dont know why but maybe bc this might be my one and only and it took so long..that i dont want tooooo many used things.
i knowww soooo not economical...but...does anyone feel this way or should i get over it? ty!

i didnt take any hand me downs bc it was my first, and ur first u should get new. i agree with you.

With ds, we took hand me downs for things that we would use at our moms' houses. Otherwise, 1st baby should get new.

We took some hand me downs but most of it is at my MIL since she will watch the baby 2 days a week.

Some stuff I just believe should be new for hygiene reasons

I wanted everything new for DD. I didn't want hand me down anything...actually not for my 2nd either. I just like new for babies. You're right, not economical but we were able to afford new so that's what we did.

I did not take any hand me downs w/ the boys. Just wanted everything new and perfect for them, as silly as it sounds.

I got all new things for dd because I had a shower. The only thing I took that was used was a boppy from my cousin who's dd never used it and I purchased a new cover

I guess it's a personal preference.

I just gave all my baby things to a friend of mine who had her first baby (and probably only).

She got the infant seat and base
Snap and Go
swing, bouncer, etc.... even swaddle blankets and clothes and even an infant bathtub.

She was beyond thrilled to take them as it meant she didn't have to worry about spending the money on them if she did not receive them at her shower.

i took a few things from my sister that I had originally put on my registry. so I wound up with a good amount of gift cards that have come in REALLY handy since the baby arrived. the stuff she had was in great condition (from her youngest who isn't even 2 yet) so why not? i wouldn't take hand me down car seats-- things where safety could be comprimised by time and/or excessive use.

I took used baby clothes from friends/family. I definitely wanted my own baby gear though. I didnt turn anything down though because I wasnt offered anyway

This time, I already bought a used double stroller. That just makes more sense to me now.

No I didn't take hand me downs. If people gave us clothes, I just said thank you and wound up donating them. I didn't get very nice clothes from people.

I took hand me down strollers, clothes, toys, basically anything that he would be in for a short period of time... but I wouldn't take anything like carseats, feeding supplies and high chairs.) Even after a shower there is a lot of cr@p you have to buy, and if you can get some of the financial burden lessened, it makes it easier...

I totally would take them! As long as the carseat is not expired and the crib is current, not safety issues, and our style...definitely! Use the $ you'd save for savings or something else. Even if you register and get what you really want you can always use for grandma and grandpas house. We've been very fortunate to have lots of items offered to us, especially clothing. It's wonderful, every season I have another batch of clothing passed along :).

I didn't take any hand-me-downs because I didn't need to. We had a huge shower and everyone was more than generous.

I got our nursery furniture from my SIL. Its a huge help for us and does not bother me in the bit.

I am not thinking i will get any hand me downs because family all has older children and friends are all still having little ones, so i dont think they are giving anything up..I do think i would take certain things- a second pak andplay, certain toys, things like that..

The only hand me down i accepted with pleasure was dh family bassinet.

Everything else will be and is brand spankin new.

It sounds snotty, but I kinda skeev hand-me-downs... we will have all new stuff for with the exception of stuff at my parent's house (which is from when my 5 year old niece was a baby).

I'm actually worried about that bc my MIL is telling me about all the stuff my SILs can give me since they have 4 girls btwn the 2 of them.... I'm like "ummmmm thanks"

I would take hand me down clothes, but not furniture. Only for the reason that Ive been put in an awkward situation already where the furniture broke while we were putting it back together (they gave it to us unassembled) and now we owe them a brand new piece of furniture. I dont mind bc its the right thing to do to replace the broken furniture, but had I known this would happen I would have just bought it for myself.

I GLADLY took furniture. Car seat: no way, just not worth the risk. I bought a used swing from a fellow LIFer and got a free mattress from another.

yes. i felt like i got SO much at our baby shower, but it's amazing how many things we were still able to borrow. most of them are luxuries, not necessities...but i'm grateful to have them!

we got our travel system stroller brand new, but a friend had used the exact same one and is loaning us her extra car seat and base...now DH can have that in his car and we never need to worry about transferring from car to car.

same friend lent me a snap n go stroller and excersaucer.

SIL gave us her bassinet which is the one thing i was hoping to borrow from someone since it's only used for a few months.

also got some extra clothing in addition to the ton of new clothes we got from shower. most of it still in great condition, and really cute!! just washed it along w the new stuff and it's ready to go in his dresser.

I was more than willing to take everything SIL had to offer but once I saw the condition of these items I was like . My mom then decided at that point that everything this baby is getting will be new.

maybe i'm the only one, but my sister offered to give me whatever her DD's had outgrown and I really don't care.... it will help out financially big time!
