I told my boss I'm PG

Without going into too much detail i work for the DOE but not as a teacher. I work in 2 schools, so I have 2 supervisors and 2 principals to report to.
This is a brand new job I started in Sept, when I went on the interview I didn't even know I was PG.

Fast forward to 20 weeks, I told my 2 supervisors. They we ECSTATIC. I was so relieved.
Today (at 26 weeks) I worked up the nerve to tell one of my principals. She is a nice lady but I'm honestly petrified of her, she is very strict.
Well she was NOT happy. No congratulations, just asked how long I'm taking off and when I'm coming back. I totally understand why she's pi**ed, but come on, you work with children, you are a woman and also a mother.

Thanks for letting me vent. I'm so upset about this!

ugh try not to take it personally. probably just stressed about how to fill you when you are gone..doe means you can have like 5 years off right?! etc

I didn't get such a positive response from my boss but he's a man. Who cares? DO NOT let thim spoil this for you. They will work around your pregnancy its their job to.

don't let this bother you..she's not worth it. some people are ridiculous. my boss's response was "you know, you don't really have a lot of sick days...."

another co-worker actually threw her hands up in the air & rolled her eyes when I told her (bc I was the third of 3 girls at work to get preg)

F other people... enjoy every moment of your pregnancy! some people r just miserable no matter what.

She also may have been upset that you didn't tell her earlier. I am due the same date , and I know I found out July 24 when I POS, and told my bosses at 20 weeks so we could start planning my leave plan. She may assume that you hid it during the interview, which, while legally you of course do not have to disclose, it doesn't make the best impression on a new employer.

Ugh, I am a former NYC teacher. I taught in Bushwich for 5 years, during which I had my daughter. I have to tell you that I feel like so many of the long-time teachers, admins, out of classroom personel in the city get so wrapped up in their JOBS that they forget what it is like to be a MOTHER. My principals got so caught up in this category and they never really seemed to understand why I needed to take off certain days for my daughter.

I am sorry that this principal responded unwarmly towards you. But at least you know that you have every right to the time off and the union assures it as well.

I wouldn't let it get to you too much. Unfortunately some people are just not happy for us for their own reasons. At least it is out in the open now and you can relax a bit not worrying about her and how she will react.
