Re: practice breathing btdt?
I took deep cleansing breathes throughout every contractions. In through my nose and out of my mouth. My labor went so smoothly just from breathing, locking eyes and hands with DH and focusing on the goal, meeting my baby!!! This is not something I practiced and I never took a class. I just wanted to be as calm as possible and breathe through the pain, it 100% worked IMO. I also had calm music playing in the background.

I just took a class on Sat...were you in it with me????
I am not going to practice because everyone tells me the nurses will walk you through everything and even if you never took a class you would be fine.

I don't think you need to practice. I never took lamaze. The nurses walked me through the breathing during my first delivery. They are very good about it.

Re: practice breathing btdt?
I had taken the Bradley class and our instructor taught me how to do the deep, cleansing breaths (which a PP mentioned). I found it very helpful during delivery and pulled a lot of it from my yoga/pilates/relaxation practices over the years.
One interesting thing I learned from my Bradley instructor (which I really was thankful for) was recognizing where tension was in my body. She taught me and DH to know where my body was holding tension, and I felt very aware of its presence in unsuspecting places in my body (for ex., i held tension in my jaw instead of a more traditional place like my shoulders or neck). Knowing how to completely relax my body and save my energy really helped.

Re: practice breathing btdt?
I'm really hoping the nurses talk me thru it. I have'nt taken any lamaze classes and dont plan to either.
I don't know which is worse; going into labor not knowing what to expect, or going into labor knowing exactly how painful it will be.
For now I am practicing breathing thru my braxton hicks contractions.

Here's a thought/fact for you to consider - my Bradley instructor said that 1 in 5 unmedicated deliveries are pain-free but that very few women experience it as pain-free because the anticipation is always worse than the actual labor. If they go into it thinking its going to hurt like h e l l, then it most likely will. For me (two unmedicated deliveries, 9+lbs ea), I kept thinking it HAD to get worse but it was always bearable. (Although I wish I was one of those lucky painless delivery people!!)

Crashing, just to
So it only hurts them because they've been, what, tricked by friends and neighbors into thinking it hurts? When it's really "pain free" and they're too scared to notice? Haha, pregnant women sure are stupid!
Anyway, I did the lamaze breathing and was dilated 7 cm before I even asked for the epi. So it really did work for me. Whether you take a class or not, you should try practicing the techniques - you can find them on YouTube if you want. My L&D nurses were of no help AT ALL and I did the breathing all myself, so I was glad that I had taken the classes and practiced a few times at home.

Same here. I was a nervous wreck with DD, but the nurses were great.
