AFP Test
I am 17 weeks and had the AFP test done last Tuesday. I just got the call (at work no less  ) that my neural tube results were positive. I need to have the bloodwork repeated tomorrow, my Level II bumped up ASAP and I might need an amnio.
I guess I am just looking for any words of support. has something like this ever happened to anyone else on here and everything turned out to be fine? I am praying for a false positive. I'm so scared for my little baby and my whole family if there really is something wrong.

The AFP test is the worst of the tests when it comes to false positives. Try not to stress until you have more conclusive testing done.

I had a 1 in 10 chance after the AFP. They wanted me to do an amnio. I decided to just bump up my level 2 instead. My baby girl is 1 year old a perfect in every way

I had a 1:13 chance for Trisomy 18 after my AFP with DD. She is a perfectly healthy 19 month old. My friend just recently had a risk of spina bifida (?) from the AFP. She has a perfectly healthy 10 month old. Like pp's said, the AFP is a horrible test. notorious for false positives. Try not to worry

Thanks everyone for the hugs and stories of false positives. I am supposed to go for repeat blood testing and my level II tomorrow or Tuesday, so hopefully I'll get answers soon.

hate all these tests I really do. Like some of the pp's said there are sooo many false postives. Ive known girls that had results like yours and their children are absolutely FINE!!!
