Michelle Duggar Has a Miscarriage
A day of joyful anticipation has turned to anguish for Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar.
At a routine check-up Thursday to find out the gender of their 20th child, their doctor was unable to find a heartbeat and told the couple they had miscarried in the second trimester.
"After the appointment, we came back home and told the children," says Michelle, 45. "We had just been talking about baby names last night and they were getting excited about naming a boy or a girl. It has been a real sad disappointment."
She says the family will select a name after they know if the baby was a boy or girl, and then plan to have funeral service.
"I feel like my heart broke telling my children," says Michelle. "They have all been so excited about this baby and looking forward to April coming around and having a new little one in our arms. That was the most difficult. The Lord is the giver of life and he can choose when that life is ready to go on and be with Him."
The stars of TLC's 19 Kids and Counting previously weathered a medical ordeal with their youngest daughter, Josie, who was born in December 2009.
This was their second miscarriage; Michelle lost her baby during her second pregnancy. She was taking oral birth control at the time and cites this as one reason they couple together decided to leave the number of children they have "up to God."

How sad for her. That being said...sigh....I think this is a sign it's time to stop. Her last child was born very premature and now this. You have 19 healthy kids.

I don't think they "try"--they just don't prevent. The only thing that will stop them is menopause.

She will. They believe in leaving it up to God, so they won't do anything to avoid pregnancy.
They do believe BC was responsible for their frst MC. I wonder if this changes her views on that. Probably not.

agreed. she's 45. if she desires more kids so much, there is adoption....................

I just read this on people.com. I know that they love and care for their kids with no assistance from outside sources etc. I really really feel that they should stop because this is just so sad.

I don't care how many kids she has, her religious belief's, or her whatever...she lost a child. My heart is breaking for her and to lose a child in the 2nd tri after going for your gender appointment. Oh man that just kills me. So so so sad for her

My heart breaks for her as it does for anyone who loses a child. Second trimester ... I'm there myself and it's a huge fear of mine to one day hear those words she heard at the doctor's office. So very sad.
I have to say, they seem like a very loving and well adjusted family. They support themselves. They are very mindful of reusing as much as they can. Yes their last child was born very premature; so was mine. And now she lost a baby in the second trimester. So does this mean that every woman who has should take it as a sign not to have any more children? I don't think so personally.
Again, my heart goes out to them.

It is very sad...esp bec she was late in the pregancy too! That is DEF hard to deal with whether you have 1 or 19 children...
BUT
I do have to say I understand she wants to have babies as long as God will allow her to...but I think this should be a sign...maybe it is not the conceiving that is the problem...maybe it is the toll that her beautiful other 19 children that has put on her body! So God is allowing her to conceive...but if she can't carry them to full term anymore maybe her and her husband should consider stopping!
I feel bad for her, her husband and the famiily's loss - but it upsets me that she is putting herself and her future unborn children at risk!

That is so sad, but after going through what she went through during her last pregnancy(being extremly premature) and postpartum I think its time to stop and at 45 its harder to carry a pregnancy to term. That is sad though.

My heart breaks for her and the family. This has to be so hard, especially in the second trimester.
As much as I love the family, I do think she should really stop having kids. Mostly because of her age. I think having 19 kids has taken a toll on her body, and being 45 doesn't help. Just sit back and enjoy her life and family. She will have plenty more grandchildren coming her way, so there will plenty of babies around to spoil and love.

Heartbreaking, regardless of age, faith, etc. Especially in the 2nd trimester . . . ugh!
I would imagine they find tremendous comfort in their faith, and "God's plan" for them.
