Medea pump and supplies question

Hello,

I'm about 19 weeks along and starting to think about baby products.

I will be contacting Edgepark about getting a breast pump soon and I'm pretty sure my insurance will cover it. So my question is:

If money is no object which pump should I ask for? (I'm leaning towards the freestyle pump but just wanted to get some more opinions)

Also what do you suggest pumping into? Bags or bottles? (I plan on using Dr Brown bottles again)

What other pump supplies should I get?

I had the Medela Pump in Style that came in a tote bag and loved it. I primarily pumped and this one worked great for me. I just pumped into the storage type bottles.

Will you be a working mom? Do you plan of freezing your BM?


This was my experience.
I am a full time working mom. My job requires me to be at a job site once a week and I'm on my feet all day long. I chose the Medela Freestyle because it's the lightest breast pump out there. The pump itself is only 1lb. It comes in a tote bag with 4 bottles, an ice pack and all the pump accessories. The whole assembly weights about 6 lbs. This is very important to me because I have to carry drawings for meetings, tape measure, flashlight, etc for work.

When I was on my maternity leave I froze some BM so I used bags because it expands when frozen. Well, that was short lived because when I returned to work I barely pumped enough. What ever I pumped was used immediately the next day so I only used bottles. I did not use anymore bags at that point. I ended up donating all my bm bags to my sister.

I have the Medela Pump In Style shoulder bag and used it for both older and younger DS.

This one was given to me so I didn't really research which ones were the best/lightest.

I used Playtex drop-ins so I bought the Playtex adapter set that allowed me to pump directly into the drop-ins. I usually pumped an extra session every morning for the freezer -- those ones I pumped into bottles and then transferred to the freezer bags because I found that I would accidentally spill the bags more easily than I could spill from the bottles.

I know of some ladies who buy an extra pump for work, but I just bought an extra cord/outlet for my office so that I didn't have to worry about packing up the cords everyday. I also got the battery pack adapter for when I had to take business trips and needed to pump where there was no electrical outlet available (ie Newark airport bathroom or a cab when you're the MOH at your friend's bachelorette party in the city and they want to go clubbing )

I have the PIS backpack. Eish I got the tote instead but that has nothing to do with the pump itself. I also pumped on leae building a supply and freezing it. I like the lansinoh bags better.

Tips:
Pump on weekends too - I wake up, pump, go back to sleep
Squeeze air out of the bags before closing and freeze flat
I bought extra horns and shields and tubing that i leave at work.
