Fetal Doppler

Ugh!! I'm 10 week 6 days, I should've been able to hear something right??

Of course I'm freaking out.

We thought we found the hearbeat a few times, but it never lasted.

Anyone else have bad luck with these??

I've read that you cant really get a good reading on those things until ur around 18weeks. It may be too early for you to hear anything.

I am 18 weeks tomorrow and juust this past week have I been able to hear the heartbeat without killing myself. Rarely if ever did I hear it before 14 weeks. I was soooooooo upset but try not to stress!! Xoxox

We didnt hear anything at my 10 week appt either. Everything was fine though!

Its super hard to find that early on. That's when I used mine for the first time and was so discouraged. I def can say I found hb clearly at 14 weeks though so wait it out!

Which doppler did you get? Basically any one you can buy in a store like Target or BBB won't work at all until the third trimester. If you got a hospital-grade one off of the internet, it should work by 12 weeks. A little earlier if you're really patient. I rented a hospital-grade one for $45 a month and was able to hear a hb at 10w6d. But it literally took 20 minutes to find the first time. The hb was nowhere near where you'd imagine - it's still under your pelvic bone, even below your bikini line.

Try not to freak out. 10w5d is really early and the hb is so faint. Unless you have a super-powerful doppler, and are willing to try for a LONG time, you won't hear anything yet.

Are you talking about a doppler you rented? I definitely wouldn't expect you to find the hb at that point. Trained professionals often have trouble finding the hb with a doppler around 11 weeks. Don't worry.

Don't freak out, it's SUPER early to hear anything. At my 12 week appt my OB tried to find the HB on the doppler for the first time and had a really hard time with it. Plus she told me if the baby is still really low and behind your pubic bone you won't be able to hear it because the machine can't go through bone.

The Dr will have a hard time finding it that early so if you were trying it at home Im sure it would be hard.

THIS IS WHY DOPPLERS ARE NOT A GOOD THING.....panic for no reason.

With my first pregnancy, the Dr had problems finding DS until he was 20 weeks. They tried the doppler at 12 weeks and heard nothing. At 16 weeks, it took awhile before they found it - and it was only for a split second before DS moved. We couldn't hear it easily - for extended periods of time until he got bigger and had less room to move around - and these are trained professionals.

This baby has been a lot more cooperative for the doppler (not for ultrasounds)...

I wouldn't even try before 12 weeks (and make sure the doctor can find it first). I got a doppler around 15 weeks and can usually find the heart beat now, but at 10 weeks I doubt I would have been able to.

Like some of the pp's said Doctors dont even attempt to listen to the heartbeat through a doppler until 12 weeks. Dont panic its too early wait a few more weeks.

This is why I am not a fan of dopplers. You're causing unnecessary stress by worrying about what you can and can not hear. It is probably just too early so try not to worry too much.
