Elevating your feet to alleviate swelling
Dumb question alert!! I know if your feet are swelling, it's recommended to elevate them. I never had swelling with my first pregnancy, so this is all new to me. I've had it in my ankles/feet consistently for the past 3 weeks or so. Some days are worse than others. Today is really bad- I have major Fred Flintstone feet! So I'm sitting at my desk trying to figure out the best way to elevate my feet. My dumb question is- what exactly sontitutes "elevation"? Off the floor? higher than your waist? Higher than your heart? Just trying to figure out the best way to do this with the logistical situation I'm in

Re: Elevating your feet to alleviate swelling
At work I just try to get them off the floor when I think of it. At home I lie down on the couch or bed and prop up my feet with pillows. It's working ok for now, but I have a ways to go

Re: Elevating your feet to alleviate swelling
At work, I rest them on top of an upside down recycling bin - so I'm sitting in an L shape.
I haven't had swelling yet but, I never moved the bin from my last pregnancy so I do it now all the time.

Re: Elevating your feet to alleviate swelling
I believe that you are supposed to elevate them above your heart level.. which would be hard to do while sitting at your desk at work
Im at 37.5 weeks and my feet/ankles are monstruous!!! I feel like elevating them does not help all that much, but then again i usually just elevate to my waist so that Im sitting at an L. At work I put my feet up , when i remember , on the pc tower and at home i sit on the couch and put my legs up on the coffee table or just lay down.

Re: Elevating your feet to alleviate swelling
At work, just keeping them waist level is useful.
You can also use diuretics to help with the swelling (most of it is water retention) - tea, water, cranberry juice will all help.

my coworker (pregnant with twins) uses a paper box upside down under her desk.

Re: Elevating your feet to alleviate swelling
I found in my last pregnancies, besides elevation, drinking more water was KEY. Also try to avoid salt intake for awhile.

Re: Elevating your feet to alleviate swelling
Higher than your heart is best but at work I would keep a recycle pail upside down under my desk.

Re: Elevating your feet to alleviate swelling
Higher than your heart.
Sadly, I could only do that at home on my couch=- so at work I suffered.
Try icing them too.
At the end, NOTHING helped me though. i looked like a freak of nature!!
