Help buying Newborn clothes

Are you buying the Newborn size bodysuits, etc or the 0-3 months? The newborn size looks so tiny!! But then the 0-3 months looks too big, lol. I'm thinking to buy the 0-3 months so at least the baby can grow into it?? What are you doing?

I am going to avoid buying newborn sizes. I am sure I will get a few things as gifts but the majority of the clothes I get will be bigger. Both dh and I were 9 1/2 lb babies and LO is already measuring a week ahead so I assume I will be giving birth to a turkey over here..

It will really just depend on how big your baby is. My girls were born VERY early!! However their due date just past and they are 7.5 and 6.5 lbs. now. They will be in NB clothes for a while still. the 0-3 is soooo big on them.

i bought some newborn clothes but havent washed them or cut the tags off. if the baby is small and needs newborn size then dh can wash stuff while i am in the hospital, otherwise I will return them.

DS was in newborn onesies/clothes for about 1 week, maybe two. he was 8.6lbs and 22" at birth... by his 2 wk check up he was too big for the newborn clothes. But, like PPs it all depends on when and how big your LO is when born.
This time around (just like last time) I will just have newborn gowns and some side snap shirts to start (it'll be easier to change diapers).

I got all 3-6 mths, they will shrink in dryer too. When I had my 1st DD I got a lot of 0-3 mth clothes and she was in them for a week! I would go with more 3-6!

We skipped over newborn size completely with my DD --- and went straight to 0-3 months. Have you had a growth sono yet? Any idea if baby is measuring small or big? That might give you an idea!

We had nb and 0-3. DD was an average size baby (6-14 at birth) and wore it for two months.

I wouldn't buy lots of clothes though. We were given clothes by EVERYONE and wound up returning a bunch of stuff.

eta: I never had anything shrink in the dryer except Gerber onesies. All our other clothes washed well.

My DS was 7lbs 11oz and 21 inches when he was born. He was in Newborn clothes for about 4 weeks. The 0-3 month clothes where huge on him. You can't belive they would fit into something so small, but they do.
When we left the hospital he was 7lbs 3oz and his Newborn outfit was a little big on him. Check out my album marked Shane. The first picture of him in the car seat was the day we came home.

DD is 5 1/2 weeks now, the 0-3 fit her nicely (finally) and the straight 3 month stuff she is starting to fill out well. no way she'd fit in 3-6 months. She still fits in some newborn stuff depending on the brand. she's about 9lbs and 22 inches now (was 8lb 6oz and 20 inches when born, came home from hospital at 7lb 8oz).

I find gerber, littleme, and ralph lauren and kissy kissy run smaller than carters. gerber onesies definitely shrink if you dry them on high heat, i didn't find they shrunk on low heat (but took 2 dryer cycles to dry all the way).

I had no NB clothes for DS (excep his coming home outfit) and he was 8 lbs at birth, so I thought I was in the clear... But he gained no weight until he was almost 4 weeks old! (We had some GI issues) So when he was 2 weeks old I bought him like 4 outfits (the layette sets). I squeezed his chunky butt into those outfits until he was about 12 lbs, poor kid! Darn strait I get use outta those clothes! But, I got onesies and pants sets, not sleep and plays. The NB sleep and plays can't hold a baby over 21" (at least the Carter's brand).

It really depends on the size of the baby. Sawyer is 5lbs 5oz and even the nb is big on him. There is no way he would fit into a 0-3m anything. With my DD she was in her NB stuff for almost 8wks! SHe was 5lb2oz at birth.

Last time, they told me DS was measuring small, around 6lbs and newborn size is 5-8lbs so I just bought a few pjs and onesies. He was born 7lbs 4oz and was in size 0-3 month within 3 weeks. I might do the same this time also. I'll have to see how big this baby will be.

My DD #1 was 7lbs 4oz and wore newborn clothes for at least a month. I don't like babies swimming in clothes so I got some newborn stuff for this baby.

I've always purchased a few newborn size outfits at least 1 pack of Onesies, and about 5 outfits to wear. I didn't want my children coming home in an oversized outfit. I would then buy 3 pks of 0-3 month Onesies and 3 3-6mos. They grow out of them so fast.

DS was 9.5 lb at birth, so no newborn diapers or clothes for us. But at 2 months, he is still wearing 0-3 or straight 3's.

I would wait til 3 trimester to see how baby is measuring. I bought 2 outfits in newborn, and all 0-3. I never ended up wearing the newborn.

We mixed it up a lot. We bought mostly 0-3 but there are a few newborn outfits we grabbed just to be on the safe side.

My dd was an average size baby 7.0 lbs she wore newborn untill 7 weeks. I didn't buy that much newborn because I was convinced it would be too big and then when we got her home 0-3 months was huge on her. I went out and purchased a lot of newborn things for her including teeshirts.

DS wore newborn clothes for over a month. I'd definitely buy some newborn clothes. You don't have to take the tags off or wash them. See what size DC is at birth and then decide whether you need them. I brought a 0-3 outfit to the hospital and it would have been huge on DS.

honestly you need to buy both but not wash the newborn stuff. i ended up with a preemie so my baby was in newborn for like 2.5 months (after a month in preemie)! my cousin went full term and had a 6.5lb baby, he was in newborn for a full month. a friend had a 10lb baby and never touched the newborn stuff.

IMO its better to have it and return it then to not have it and have to run out and get it.

I have about 15 onesies that are NBsize and those were just from a friend that had too many and said you only need a few because they are in them so short.
