Already at 4 months I have gd!!! Failed my 3 hour. I just pray I don't need insulin one day since its so bad so early on. Whaaaaa

How many weeks along are you?

I am 5.5 months --- 22.5 weeks right now. I asked my OB when we will do the glucose test since I had GD with DD,a nd he said not until 24 weeks. He said doing it before then is not worthwihle because the placenta isn't interfering with insulin by then!

I would love to know already for sure!

I also wanted to add in ...

I failed my 1-hr with DD1 miserably. After the 1 hour my glucose was 186 so my doc didn't even want me to do the 3-hour. He felt strongly that I had it either way.

I never ended up using any insulin or any medication. I controlled my sugar levels purely through diet. Yes, there were days when my levels were high, like after eating pizza but most days my levels were just fine.

Also before you get to the insulin point, I believe there are some by-mouth medications that you can try first to help stabalize your glucose levels.

There are some good threads on GD. Check the sticky post at the top of the board there is a link there. And good luck! You will most likely go to a nutritionist and they will help you a lot! I loved my nutritionist and found she was more helpful then my doc when it came to my GD!

16w5d is when I did the test. The doc said its best to catch it early I guess. I used toi taker metformin for infertility treatmebts and had to stop it a month ago so I think that screwed me up even more. Gahhhhhhhhhhh toooo many issues! Pooooo

Sorry to hear about your GD results. When do you go back to determine insulin or not? Because of my insulin resistance, they have always mentioned the possibility of developing GD. But, it will depend on my levels to determine needing insulin. GL!

I feel your pain!! I have GD, as well. my fasting at the time was 108 (they like under 90), but 1 hour after drinking the 100g of glucose for the 3 hour I was at 257..i was pretty much told insulin was certainly in my future..it was. Mine was not able to be controlled with diet, so I am on insulin since 30 weeks (4 X day). My endo did not reccommend any oral medications since they can cross the placenta and insulin does not. it's not so bad..although I am counitng how many shots i have left ..only 138 more to go..YIPPEE!!

Oh yuck! I think you're a little early anyway with taking the test. Maybe your MD will have you retest at the "normal" time and it won't be an issue anymore. Fingerst crossed!

try to look at the positives (although i know how hard it is) - i sincerely believe the GD diet is why I lost all of my pregnancy weight so quickly after delivery. i was eating so healthy so none of it was unhealthy weight. good luck.

It isnt so bad! I had it and went on a strict low carb diet. I lost a few pounds at the start of the diet and only gained like 8 pounds altogether.

DS is one month old and I am already 15 pounds lighter than pre pregnancy weight.
