Opinions on Bassinettes...

We never had a bassinet with DD. To be honest we had the crib set up before she was born, and she prefered to sleep in the Fisher Price Aquarium Bouncer with the bouncer on ALL night long. Let's just say that energizer was our best friend for the first 2 months there. By 2 months she was sleeping through the night in her crib though, at least until about 5am.

Now we are awaiting the arrival of #2. We still haven't even made a dent on the baby's room, and if you read my post from yesterday you will see that it is a huge issue.

If I get rid of some furniture in our room (which really stinks because it is furniture that we use, and we don't have a basement or an attic or a garage to put anything in) then we can make room for a bassinet in our room.

Do I go and buy a bassinet to buy us more time on getting the baby's room ready?

Or just put more pressure on DH to help me with the baby's room?

How old do they sleep in a bassinet for?

Anyone have experience with babies hating their bassinettes and refusing to sleep in them?

My kids always sleep in a bassinet next to my bed. They were both in there for the first three months. They could have stayed longer but they both outgrew it.

It's a tight squeeze, and I move furniture around to accomodate it, but I like having them right next to me when they are so teeny.

See, that is part of the reason why I wonder if it is worth it. 3 months is a very short amount of time. When we would be doing this to give us more time in getting the baby's room ready, maybe it would be better for us to just have an even tighter squeeze and put the full sized crib in our room. Plus, Emily was a big baby, and I'm imagining that this one will be as well. Emily was 9lbs 10 oz so she grew out of small things quickly!

Ehh, I wouldn't put a crib in your room.

I would honestly finish the baby's room before the baby comes that way you have the option of putting him right in there.

Otherwise borrow a bassinet or a co-sleeper from someone and use that for a few months. My kids were over 9lbs too which is why they outgrew the bassinet. I know lots of people who have kept them in their rooms for longer.

Melissa I agree with Diana, try to get the baby room done take a weekend with DH and just do it, so you have peace of mind before the baby comes!! It will be so much easier for you!

DS#1 slept in his crib in his own room for Day One.
DS#2 slept in a (borrowed) bassinette next to my bed for the first 10-12 weeks, when he outgrew the weight restriction. Then he was moved to his own crib in the -gasp- den/office. I didn't want him to disturb older DS and even though we knew he would eventually end up back in the room he now shares with older DS -- they weren't ready to share a room yet and the spare crib wouldn't fit in our MBR.
Can you borrow a light pack and play or a bassinette for the short time after baby first comes home? Like another poster replied in yesterday's thread -- babies don't really need much the first few weeks -- a place to sleep, a place to be held and a place to be fed.

I bought a cradle from Target for DS and kept it in my room for 3 months. The cradle turns into a bench, which we have now in the playroom. I'm just buying a new mattress for this baby.
