First internal and strep test today
What can I expect? I know some people say it can be pretty painful.

Honestly I didnt find it painful at all. I was lucky I guess. Cause i do hear some girls say it is very painful. Good luck your so close now

Like PP said, I know people find them painful, but I haven't ever experienced pain. Uncomfortable? A bit for a second. But I never felt pain. Maybe some OB's just aren't as gentle...
Oh and the strep test... a little "invasive" as they go to your "back door" with a swab (not painful whatsoever)-- so don't be surprised!

Thank goodness I just read this. I had no idea that is how they test for strep b.

Ihave never heard of going in the "back door" for the strep test! This is definitely not the norm. I never had this with either of my tests. The whole purpose of it is to see if the bacteria is present in your vagina/birth canal to see if there is a possibility of infecting the baby as he/she passes through the canal on the way out. I can't imagine any reason why it should be taken from the back end. That makes no sense. 
As for internals- I never found them to be at all uncomfortable until I started to dilate. Last week, I was 1cm and the internal was a little uncomfy, but not painful really.

Okay I do not remember them doing the strep test in the back door at ALL so I don't think that can be the norm!
Granted I had my DD 6 years ago but I think I'd remember something like that!

Interesting!
I had it done 3 times and they touched the "back door" each time. First 2 were done by my OB and my last one was done at L&D at Winthrop by the attending doctor.
Don't get me wrong...It wasn't like they shoved it in there... they definitely swabbed it! But it's just something that I didn't expect the first time.
I guess not all OB's are the same...

They hurt if your tense, try to relax down there lol and it won't be painful, I never had a painful internal.

Thank goodness I just read this. I had no idea that is how they test for strep b.
They dont! They test for it in the vagina only, this is my 3rd pregnancy and always got tested for it in my vagina, NOT back door lol

When I had my strep test done they swabbed inside the vagina and swabbed the "back door". I don't think they went inside, I think it was just around the opening of the "back door".

Here is what they say on BabyCenter
What is the test like?
Your practitioner will swab the lower end of your vagina and your rectum (this won't be painful) and send the swabs to a lab to be grown in a culture that will identify whether GBS bacteria is present. Your results should be available in two to three days, and your practitioner will give them to you at your next prenatal appointment. If she doesn't tell you, be sure to ask.
You may have heard about GBS tests that can be done during labor and delivery in some hospitals, with results available within an hour or so. But the rapid tests are not as sensitive as those that allow time for the GBS to incubate. So at the present time, the CDC, ACOG, and AAP all still recommend screening at 35 to 37 weeks.

Had my first last friday and it was not painful at all and lasted less than a minute!!! They did use the swab for the back door....

My sister and I both have a tilted uterus and the internals were incredibly painful for us but so are normal pap smears and whatnot. We both cried a lot. I had NO clue why every time I went to the gyno I was in so much pain until this second pregnancy when the first time meeting with my midwife she told me that I had a tilted uterus. Explained SO many things for me. My previous gyno never said a word about it to me, just told me that I was probably exaggerating because internals normally don't hurt. 
As for the strep test, I had it done and if they did the back door I didn't even realize it so I guess it's not that bad lol
