Would you name your 3rd DS after DH?

DH has the same first name as FIL, and I've always been against naming someone a Jr., III, IV, etc.
We compromised for first two DS's with the same middle names and initials as FIL. Now that we're having a 3rd boy, DH thinks we should definitely name him after FIL (which is the same as DH).
I think if we haven't named our firstborn after FIL and DH, we can't do it now. Weird, no? Nevermind we only live one town away from FIL and our mail gets mixed up all the time plus their credit reports are always mistaken with each others' activities.
What are your thoughts?

I'm not a fan of naming sons after fathers, so I have to agree with you. My sister named her DS after her DH and one time they even had a mix up at the pharmacy with a perscription...scary stuff. Plus, like you said, it's your third. I wouldn't but that's just my opinion.

I think if you are going to make your son a Jr., it should be your first born son.
I would pick something else.

Dh is not a fan of making someone a Jr. I have no problem with it. If you want to have a Jr I don't believe it has to be the first born.

I agree - if the baby is going to be a JR. it should be the first son.

I am thinking about naming this baby after my dad if it's a boy. He would be thrilled and has been begging for it for the last two. Of course my DH doesn't agree yet - but I will work on him if that's what I decide on.

My FIL named his first son after him and there have been SO many credit problems. Basically BIL's Ex-Wife who had all of BIL's social security number info and things like that has wrecked both BIL and FIL's credit with things getting mixed up. They've been divorced for over 15 years and still things pop up on FIL's credit report!

So I would say to steer clear from using DH's name if at all possible, that's just how I feel about it.

DH is a Jr. and it causes a lot of issues. We gave our first son DH/FIL's name as a middle name as well. They seemed ok with them.

My cousin is married to a Peter, III. Her son is Peter but has a completely different middle name so he isn't a IV. So that could be an option too.

I know a couple families where the youngest son was named after the father but in all those cases, they weren't made "Jrs". They all have different middle names. That is what I would do.

Totally random...but didn't George Foreman name ALL of his sons George?

I think a real Jr. should be the first born son. If they will have different middle names it might be ok. But will your first son ever feel "cheated" that he wasn't given his father's name?

i disagree with the 1st born son having to be the Jr. ... my nephew is the 3rd born, but only 2 boys and hes named after my BIL... if you dont want to thats fine, but i wouldnt put restrictions on it like you have to have it be the 1st born

DH wants our son to have his name.
Silly me told him he can name the boy and I can name the girl.
Im not too keen on having 2 people in my household with the same name but it means a lot to DH.

So, we are having a Jr.

ETA: This is our first child, and if the 2nd is a boy, I'M naming him!

We are having our third and had it been a boy, he would have gotten DHs name even though we already have two boys that don't have DHs name.

DH is III...I see no issue either way - whether you do or don't use your DH's name.

I personally am not a fan of naming kids after someone else, for my own family. But I have no issues with other people doing it and I can certainly understand why it is done. I definitely don't think it needs to be the first born. My 2nd brother is my father's junior. That's actually standard practice in Irish culture- the first son is named after the maternal grandfather and the 2nd is named after the father. Not that that's the reason my parents decided to do it that way. But it is very common for the Jr. to NOT be the first-born. HTH!

My father is a Jr.

He is the 4th child out of 5.

My Grandma said at that point she ran out of names.

Not a fan of Jrs in general, BUT I dont think a JR has to be the first son.

My BIL has three boys and the 2nd one is the Jr.

Also, my dad is the youngest of five boys and the 2nd one bears the father's name (although not the same middle; hence, not a junior).

I don't think I'd do a "junior" name, but if I were so inclined, yes, I'd consider it for a 3rd boy...
