Update on us and birth story

We're home. I spent 50hrs in the hospital form c-section to discharge and I feel 80% better just being home! Here is how it went down, recovery, and being home...

Tuesday, Nov 15, I thought I had leaking at 36w5d. I called nad for the 100th time went in. The doc that delivered my daughter was on and when we got there we went to a L&D room. We were The doc came in before the nurse and said We're done....Any changes in your cervix, contractions closer then 15min apart irregular or not, and or if your fluid is even a little low he's coming out. Sooooo not what we expected. SO I was 1cm 50% and contracting every 8-16 min. After 2 hrs they were every 5-8 and he came back in and said blah blah sched sectin at 39 wks unless I can "justify" it and he needs out. You have a funny little uterus Maybe 23hr obs and we'll do it tomorrow or hold you until Thurs since you would be full term at 37w0d. At 10pm the resident did the fluid check and said it's a hair low, but don't worry you'll be home soon 10 min later he came in and said lets see since the contractions are intense. I was 2cm and 80%. He gave me Nubain for the pain and said 23obs at the least. Joe left at midnight...I kid you not 10 min later the nurse came in and said get your husband back here you're going in now...Dr. is not liking the progress and that your contractions are more regular. Called DH and we waited and waited. At 0609 DS came screaming into the world with NICU standing by. He did GREAT!

C-section they suckk Recovery He nursed in recovery and has been great every since! Latched and nurses every 2hrs. We had some blg "issues" but we did a suppl. with 10cc of formula and kept him just high enough to keep him from the NICU. I had great nurses and they encouraged bfing, but I also had to fight for what I wanted. It’s a long story and I’ll share if interested but it had to do with no milk, minimal at best colostrum, low blg, and trying formula….it was a fight but in the end they understood and we all won! The section was different for me…

C-Section- I had prepared for this so it wasn’t a huge surprise. What was was how I felt while them doing it. They kept saying you’ll feel tugging and pressure but Iddin’t I felt disconnected from my body like they said pressure in your belly and I thought well why are they wiggling my big toe? It just didn’t make sense. It was never painful or even uncomfortable just awkward. At one point I though the doc was laying over my belly and I guess he was. My incision was originally 5 inches but due to my :”funny” shape he ripped it open another 5 inches. I’m cut from pretty much my hip to hip ? The sensation of him on me was him doing this. I felt nothing. The recovery was painful I won’t lie, but I was adamant to get up as soon as possible. I did and 24hrs post c-section I showered on my own and was doing all my own care as well as baby’s on my own with no help. It hurt and I took all the meds I needed Ie: motrin and nubain the 1st 24hrs, but it was worth it. By the time I saw the next doc 26hrs later he told me I could go home the next morning and that was enough to keep me going. That 2nd day, Thursday, I took only Tylenol 3 and Motrin with good pain control. Gas passing and pooping are rough, but you feel so much better and if you keep that in mind it’s not so scary. POOP! It makes you feel better lol ? The last night, Thursday, he nursed all night and finally at 0300 they asked to take him so I could sleep. I caved and those 2 hrs were magical! I’m home now and doing fine. I am moving slow, but steady, and every hour gets easier. I am staying ontop of the pain by alternating my meds like suggested. Every 3 hrs it’s a pain med. Vicodin is 6-12-6-12 and Motrin is 9-3-9-3. This helps a lot. I wore nursing tanks and just mesh undies. It worked well for me. I showered a lot and that also helped me feel a lot better and ease my back pain from the spinal.
