Baby stuff in the house?
my nursery furniture will be delivered this weekend  and i just found out that my MIL is having a small party in honor of the baby in NY with my DH's side of the family since i can't be there for a shower (i'm OOS) - so sweet of her & his family!  we had registered so that we could have a list of what we needed - you know the bare minimum stuff and so that we could get everything for 10% off...well it turns out i'm going to be having some gifts sent to me!  the party was supposed to be a surprise but since people are sending the gifts directly to me MIL told me today so i would be prepared...
i'm 26 weeks now, the party at MIL's will be when i'm 30 weeks but it looks like i'll be gettings a few things between now and then - for those of you who had showers what did you do with the stuff? do i just keep all of the boxes in a spare room or in the closet until it gets closer? i feel like it is so soon for all of this to be happening!  furniture and gifts!
when did you start setting things up? a month before your dd? 2 weeks before your dd?

I'm 33 weeks with my 3rd, so I needed a lot of new stuff (baby was a surprise) so I kept a lot of stuff in the closet that I got since we won't set it up till a few days before my c-section. I wouldn't set up things to soon, it will just get dusty!

I'm 33 weeks with my 3rd, so I needed a lot of new stuff (baby was a surprise) so I kept a lot of stuff in the closet that I got since we won't set it up till a few days before my c-section. I wouldn't set up things to soon, it will just get dusty!
i know, between things getting dusty and me being a little superstitious (esp after a loss) i feel a little overwhelmed...it was a shock that the furniture is coming and now i'm going to start getting gifts in the mail, i feel weird! i want to just shove everything in a closet

everyone told me to have everything done by 36 weeks. Which was good advice bc I ended up having my DD at 37 weeks  . I think I started doing things around 34 weeks.

I started nesting very early. So we bought the furniture when I was around 21 weeks or so. My shower was when I was 29 weeks, I set everything up, for me I wanted to see the room together and just know that we were ready for baby as far as his nursery went. whatever you feel comfortable with is ok, if you prefer to wait until you are closer that is ok too. I am 5 weeks away from due date and just know that I would be stressing about getting the room ready if I had to start now.

i do feel the same way about the room, i'm due 2/22 but i really would like the nursery finished around the first week of Jan - i know that Jan will be here in a flash especially with the holidays being right around the corner already...so i'm glad that we can slowly work on the finishing touches for the next few weekends in between holiday decorating....i do still have quite a bit to do in there including trim painting, a wall decal that i want to order, i have to hang curtains and order blinds....so there is plenty to keep me busy in there!
i didn't really expect any gifts and now that i know we are being showered and things are going to start coming to the house it's a little weird, i thought we'd end up going one weekend to pick everything up ourselves about 4-6 weeks before my dd...

LOL! i checked my registry and there is a jumper on the way already and i'm not going to need that for quite awhile, its just so weird now i need to start making room in the spare rooms closet!

I had my shower at 28 weeks and the furniture was in the room all painted before then.
I am in the process of setting things up.
I am not washing things til right before and not setting up the crib til the end. We have a dog that sheds and his hair will be over everything so I want to minimize that as much as possible.

I understand setting up too early but you want to be prepared. I would keep it in the spare room and when you are ready to set up, set up. Personally I plan on setting everything up as I get it.
Just remember since you have a dog, I read that it helps with the adjustment if you have the things that move and make noise or play music out and set up so the dog can get used to it.
So are you going to be able to attend the shower in NY? That is so nice of them!

that is a good point with the dog - especially since she is newly adopted...i will take out the things that we'll be using right away a little early to get her used to them....we actually planned on practicing walking with her and the stroller when it gets close - so that she gets used to that before the baby goes in it she walks really well on the leash but i want to be able to take her and baby out for a walk everyday after my DH goes back to work...
i'm not going up to NY...we were supposed to go up a few weeks ago but this pregnancy has not allowed for it...i get a lot of BH contractions so i was nervous to travel being that there are a lot of days i need to take it pretty easy, plus our dog got sick and passed away around the time we had planned on going - we ended up flying my inlaws down to see us instead...so its really nice that she is getting everyone together to do something for us...my own mother and sister (who are down in FL also) seem like they could care less

Whenever I get my stuff I will be assemling only what I need for the first few months since I can go at any time due to my condition.(low fluid)
The crib and dressers have been set up for 2 months now and I will be "dusting" them once I get the rest of my things.

I had received a lot of large gifts (like my swing, bassinet, and bouncer) mother's day from my family. I kept everything in the nursery in boxes until after my shower at 34 weeks. Than dh slowly started putting everything together.

how nice of them to have a party/send you gifts! I'm only a few weeks behind you so I can see how you'd feel like it's so soon! But do whatever is easier for you!
I know I'd be too excited to wait. If I got the furniture in I'd want it set up right away

Since I am so neurotic I do not want any of my shower gifts to come back to my house. My MIL graciously offered her spare room to hold everything til we need/want to bring it to our house.
Right now the only thing in my house is the dresser and the crib (which is still in the box).
I am 30 weeks tomorrow and my shower is this weekend, we will see how things go.
