Spinoff of laundry question: Laundry Detergent?
What are all of you using for baby items and clothing? Is it necessary to use Dreft, or can I use a dye/perfume free detergent like Arm and Hammer, Ajax, All, etc.. makes?

I never used Dreft - I've always used All Free & Clear or Tide Free & Gentle...they seem to be the only 2 detergents that don't aggravate ds' eczema/sensitive skin.

I found a perfume-free, dye free detergent from Trader Joes and used that for DD's stuff. But I realized that she spent most of her time laying on us, so I switched my detergent too. Now I use 7th Generation on everything.

DS has eczema so we have to use a free and clear detergent, any brand I buy whatever is on sale. We use it on all of our clothes, not just his. I will say though that I really miss the scent of Gain lol

I had a discussion with my girlfriends about this yesterday and they all are BTDT moms and say any detergent that is Free and Clear.

Any detergent that is free of perfumes and dyes is perfectly fine. We use whatever is on sale that fits into that category! No reason to shell out all that money for Dreft!

I'll use whatever I have around but I love the smell of Dreft so I'll probably go out of my way to buy it for the first few loads  It brings back so many great baby memories

I've never used Dreft - just any free and clear detergent (which we've all switched over to now - DH and my clothes included)

I use All Free and Clear. I love Dreft, but it's not "high efficiency". So I can't use it in my washer.

I 1/2 the duggar recipe and use that. I add some tea tree oil to it as well and it's WONDERFUL!! I spent about $10 on the bucket and ingreds not including the tea tree and figured out we pay about $1 for 5gal of soap and once that's diluted down it's $0.50 for 10gal of laundry soap. It's safe for babies, sensative skin, and cloth diapering. You can add whatever scent you like, but I like the antibacterial prop of the tea tree and I also use it for the baby wipes also.

Dreft actually does have fragrance in it so when we found out DS has eczema we switched to All Free & Clear.

We always use free and clear for us so we will do the same for the baby. Right now I'm loving the concentrated method pump, it's so small and easy!

I got Dreft in the beginning, as a new mom I thought it was something I *needed* to use.
I quickly switched to Costco's Kirkland brand/ free and clear. Significantly cheaper and works just as well (if not better)!
