sprinkle related.
is it incredibly spoiled that i actually would like a sprinkle for #2?
Part of me feels its very self centered because we are having another . They are both winter babies so I'm pretty much set for clothes. And DS #1 is only 2 years old.
the other part of me feels that I could use a redo for the shower. My mom passed away 6 weeks before my 1st baby shower. It was actually rescheduled b/c of her death. So I feel my entire shower was tainted with that. It was very emotional and since the wound was so fresh that entire day (for me) was about her not being there.
Even for my bridal shower she was so very sick (she had cancer) that I had to do everything for my own shower. I paid for it, decorated it, etc. I did the invites even.
We do need big stuff with #2 coming since DS#1 are either still being used for him or we sold it for b/c we weren't planning on having #2 for another 1-2 years at which point #1's stuff would have been expired. (i.e. infant carrier, etc.)
honestly its not for the stuff either. Its that I want a day without all the sadness the other ones had.
I'm sure I'm not going to have one because I really dont have anyone in my life who (a) knows how I feel or (b) would host it, but is it incredibly selfish that I want it in the first place?

I think that because of your reasoing, no it's not selfish of you to want one. My friends brother passed away the week of her bridal shower. The entire shower was filled with tears and sadness. Her baby shower the the opposite. Her mom made sure to make it all about her and did nothing that would upset her. you deserve to have a moment that you can enjoy and have as your own.

Re: sprinkle related.
I can understand in your situation wanting one. I lost my mother to cancer as well (not around the time of my shower) but i understand the toll it takes on oneself and how incredibly hard it must have been for you the first time around at your shower. I give you a round of applause for even being able to get through it emotionally.
I think its perfectly fine for you to want a little something even if its another

It's YOUR family & loved ones that will come.
Who cares what anyone else thinks?
I had a sprinkle... without a registry (I really need nothing)... because I think every child should be celebrated!

ITA! I had a baby shower, and sprinkle, and a drizzle! My mom wanted to have something for me this time, it was small but nice! every baby should be celebrated!!

Re: sprinkle related.
I personally didn't have a sprinkle for my second son. He was born 27 months after my first and I had everything I needed. I know my family and friends are so generous and I just didn't want them spending more money because I knew that when he was born he would get a ton of gifts.
I have gone to sprinkles but most of them usually have 3.5-4 years between the kids. Not saying you shouldn't have one but this is just what I've known.
If I have a girl I'm sure my mom will be throwing me a sprinkle but I don't want big ticket items. I will ask that everyone only brings one girly girl outfit.

I agree--I don't want one for DS #2.
I understand wanting a celebration, but could you wait until arrives and have more of an introduction party? I'd love to do something like that.
I also know my family and close friends bring gifts when we have second, third, etc. children, so to me another shower is adding on another gift, KWIM?

Re: sprinkle related.
DH asked if I was going to be given another shower. I told him usually you only get one for your first. I especially have no reason to need another shower b/c the twins are only going to be 21 months when this baby is born so we still have everything. PLUS I had boy/girl twins so I have clothes no matter what the gender is. But I did tell him that I thought it would be nice to have some kind of a celebration b/c, like a PP wrote, every baby should be celebrated! I honestly don't care if it's just a small lunch with close friends and family, no gifts. Just a nice celebration of the upcoming birth. DH agreed with the whole idea and said that if no one mentions one, he'll bring the idea up to my mom for her to plan and he'll pay for it.
No matter what your reasoning is for wanting one, I don't think it's selfish at all!

I think once the baby is born it's going to be a very hectic time for at least a couple of months. For me I know it would just be an added stressor. And regardless of if it's before or after the baby is born people are going to want to bring gifts either way.
I think having it before the baby is born is a nice way for mom to have a last celebration before the "madness" begins.

Re: sprinkle related.
Its not about the gifts. Honestly I dont want gifts. I just want to celebrate without the sadness that my bridal and baby shower for #1 had.

Re: sprinkle related.
My sister in law is throwing me a sprinkle.
I was shocked when she called to ask if I would be up for it and I am so grateful. I am having my second DD and my DDs will be about 28 months apart.
I don't NEED much, but she wrote up a beautiful invite and said that this is to celebrate the pregnancy. I made a very small registry that consisted of nothing over $35 and the main point was just so if people wanted to buy bottles or diapers, they know what I use.
It is this weekend and I am beyond excited and grateful. My friends and family are brutally honest, and no one was offended. They all said how nicely worded everything and felt it would be a great event.
It hasn't even happened yet and I feel very blessed.
Maybe you can talk to your DH about it. Let him know how you feel and maybe he can talk to some family or friends who may want to put something together.
