Our precious miracle is here!
It has been a week since our gorgeous baby girl arrived into our lives and it has been incredible and surreal but most of all it has been the most life-defining moment for these first-time parents in their early/mid 40s!!!
I will post a full birth story at another time but some may remember that a stress test on my due date of 11/1/11 showed that the baby's estimated weight was approx. 9lbs. My Dr. gave me a pep talk advising that the delivery could easily end up in a c-section because I am small but he had hopes that an induction could be successful. We made arrangements to go in for the induction the next morning and labor kind of started on it's own that night with terrible back pain on one side.
The induction went great and I hardly had any pain until I was almost too well dilated but was just able to get the epidural at 6.5". The baby descended quickly but her heart rate was erratic and my OB was really concerned about her size. Despite this I was determined to push and was ready about 9 hrs after starting the pitocin. Well, I pushed and pushed and pushed and they could all see her head but once I stopped pushing she popped right back up again. My Dr. then gave me a stern talking to and said that he would never have let me push if it wasn't me (I'm pretty stubborn) but it was time to make a decision. Unfortunately we had no option but to do a c-section and all our years of waiting and infertility came to an end with she arrived in our world at 8:08 p.m. on 11/2/11 weighing *only* 8lbs 2.5oz and at 21" long.
So, here she is..... Enya Mary O'H**** our most precious gift.
She is the image of my DH but has my calm temperment and we are doing really great with breast-feeding (after the initial bumpy start which caused her to be a little jaundiced). The c-section was ROUGH!!! I am pretty tough and have a high pain threshold but this has really knocked me out although it does get better every day.
