Nap advice-4 months old

My 4 month old DD has been napping in her swing for 2/3 hours 2x/day basically since birth. I have started to transition her to her crib today for naps and bedtime (she's in pnp in my room at night) b/c my 3 y/o never transitioned well to anything and I can't do it again. I am already starting this later then I planned so today has been like this:

9AM- drop off DS at school DD falls asleep in car. Get home 9:15 put her in crib. Off/on crying and me going in to comfort until 11:00. Take her out of crib, give her bottle pickk up DS. Again falls asleep in car around 12. Put her in crib as soon as we get home. Cried on/off for 10 minutes and then I was able to rock her to sleep. Woke as soon as I put her down and has been in crib quiet but Awake since.

What do I do here??? How to I teach her to sleep in the crib?

Any advice appreciated

i honestly don't know because i'm having the same problem myself. my DD won't nap anywhere except my arms or the car seat/stroller when we're out. i've tried the crib and pnp but she just wakes up and doesnt stay asleep.

Re: Nap advice-4 months old

Dd is 4.5 months old she naps in the day in her swing for the most part but sometimes ill put her in her p n p in our room...she sleeps in it at night we have a one bedroom apt right now so she doesn't have a crib yet...we bought a sound machine from BBb it also plays three diff lulabys and has three different disks the you can project on your ceiling or wall...dd loves it she whines a lil bit but then she is out also during the day if she gusts cranky ill put micky mouse club on ( its amazing she can be wailing and here miska muska mickey mouse and the crying just stops ) .

Good luck!

i found a real nap schedule very difficult to get down until DD was 6 mos old. I tried since around 4 mos but she didn't quite get it until she was a little older. 4 mos is still so young...I wouldn't stress over it just yet. If she sleeps in the car and swing ok...I'd let her for now.

DD is also 4 months and I have been putting her down in her crib for naps for about a month and a half.

I do a short little naptime routine with her - go in her room, change diaper if needed, close blinds/curtains, put her in her sleep sack, give her the paci, read her a short book. Then I put her down in the crib, rub her belly and sing to her, and then I leave.

She will usually fall asleep, but she doesn't always stay asleep for very long - 40 minutes is her usual nap length, if she wakes up before that I go in and put the paci back in and try to soothe her. If she wakes up quietly after 30-40 minutes I will leave her in there for as long as she's happily rolling around up to an hour, to try and get her used to being in her crib quietly for that length of time.

For all the sleep help books/blogs for nightime sleeping there are very few helpful tips on napping - at least that I've found!!

Re: Nap advice-4 months old

Well she never really ended up napping in the crib today, but she is sleeping in there now. I am going to see how the night goes and start again tomorrow. I know from my 2.5 long years of nap issues with my son that I have to make this work sooner rather then later! And I agree, the sleep books really don't help with naps, I've read so many of them.

Thanks for the advice everyone.

Re: Nap advice-4 months old

just wanted to chime in that i have a 4 month old and ive taken a break from forcing her to nap in her crib....she was not into it when i tried. now im letting her nap mainly in the swing and in the stroller on our walks. i know eventually im going to have to get her into the crib for napping and for nighttime...and honestly, im scared.
