Baby Nurse?
Has anyone used a baby nurse or thinking of using one?
I have recently been hearing a lot of "hype" about how great it is to have one for the first couple of weeks after you come home with

I really want to try to figure things out just DH and I. I know the first few weeks will be stressful and scary since it is our first but I think it will be precious at the same time and I want it to be just us. My mom and MIL will be a HUGE help though and available whenever we need them. I'm going to ask my mom for a bunch of her cooking so I can just focus on baby for a while.

Personally, I can't imagine ever doing that. Those first few days and weeks home with your I feel like is precious time that you will never get back. I remember so vividly that time with our son. It was exhausting, of course, but I wouldn't trade it for anything in the world. Those quiet moments, and not so quiet moments, middle of the night, middle of the day, whatever, it all ran together, are just so so special. I can't imagine a total stranger being there during that time. I loved having every moment to get to know this little being that had been with me for 9 months. It was such a major bonding time, and learning time, and growing time. I can't imagine someone else being involved in all that.

The only people I know who have them also have a full time nanny. A baby nurse will take care of the baby 100% for as long as you have them there. Unless you have medical needs that you cannot take care of the baby yourself I think they are not necessary

Absolutely not. I'm the type of person who learns from doing. I need to do it myself, make my own mistakes, then learn "my way".

a friend who had twins used a professional baby nurse for i think 2 weeks. TONS of money, but they loved it. they got to rest and come back to their senses ( per them)

I am planning on having a nurse. Many of my friends have used one and only had positive things to say about it.

I used one with DD and booked my nurse again this time... Most everyone I know has a nurse, and it's a great help when you are home from the hospital.
Also for a new mom, they teach you things and help you to feel more comfortable.

It sounds great... but I BF & there wasn't much anyone else could really do in the beginning.
I didn't do anything else except take care of the baby though... so it does help to have someone cook & clean.

A baby nurse does not help you with chores around the house. Their sole purpose is to take care of the baby.
So Im not sure a nurse would be of any help in a situation like this. A housekeeper would though

Baby nurses, at least the nurse I booked, is there to help out in any way she can. She will not do my laundry, but anything and everything having to do with the baby she helps out with. Many do cook as well.

perhaps a postpartum doula with lactation specialization may be helpful to consider?
They can assist with feeding issues, baby care and run errands. They charge by the hour.

I EBF DD, and I did have my nurse give a bottle of expressed milk after I had been nursing successfully for a few days. She also always brought the baby into me, so I didn't have to get out of bed at night, etc.

Not me. I feel like those first few weeks are so important for the bonding process - mistakes, sleeepless nights, frustrations, and all. I feel like having someone in my home will take away from that. Plus, I know how I am when I have a "stranger" in my home and I'm not myself. I'm not relaxed. Plus, as PPs have said, I learn best from doing myself.

When I had my DD I was lucky to have DH and my mother around for the first month. If that was not an option, I would have needed a nurse. I had a c-section and a very hard recovery. I am all for a nurse if you are a first time mom, you have no other help, and especially if you have a c-section.

Many women at my company have used one and loved having one.
Personally it is not for me.
I am hoping that DH, my sister,my mom and my MIL will all rotate baby nurse duties! At least long enough for me to get a shower and nap in!

The thought never crossed my mind. My skin would be crawling knowing there was a stranger in my house taking care of my baby. After a week of DH being home he drove me up a wall so can't imagine another person in the mix. And I had a section and still wouldn't have wanted help.
