I think that my highschool sweetheart (who is one of my best friends now) thinks both from time to time. He tells me outright he basically does.
Another one of my ex's lives in Colorado now with a new wife and baby and up until he moved there I know he thought that I was the one who got away.
My bf right before my dh definately thinks THANKFULLY shes the one who got away and I feel EXACTLY the same about him. He was a total LOSER!!!!!!!

I think after we broke up my ex thought of me as the one who got away. It doesnt really matter now though as he died 2 years ago.

One I still talk to every now and then. We actually are civil somewhat friends. He looks at me as the one that got away, he admitted it. 
Can you imagine he wants to be invited to our wedding???

i don't really know - i think my 1st ex still wants to get back together - he emailed me a few years ago, just to check in. whatever he was an asshat who deserved to be dumped
my ex before fh however is a different story, we broke up after 2 1/2 years and talked every now and then. then we started hanging out again. i *think* eventually we would've gotten back together..but he passed away before we decided what we were doing

now, i think i am not even a passing thought.
ALTHOUGH when i called it off i was told by that person that they had never cried so much over any other breakup. i felt really bad. it took me a VERY long time to get over that relationship.
i still wonder what it would be like if we stayed together.
(taking DH out of the equation of course)
