Do you give potty training rewards?
If so, what do you give?
We are full fledged potty training 2.5yo DS. It's been a bit difficult because we are always out and about.
We constantly ask DS if he has to pee or poop. Half the time DS tells us he has to pee. Most of the time, he tells us he has to poop when he already started. Other times he tells us and he just sits on the potty and doesn't go.
I just realized many moms give rewards for going on the potty. I don't think M&M's would work for DS. He does love lollipops and toy cars. I really don't want to give him a ton of lollipops or new toys either.

Nope!
The only thing we did was to give high 5's and bravos.....no candy or anything else...it worked like a charm!

Nope!
The only thing we did was to give high 5's and bravos.....no candy or anything else...it worked like a charm!

I save the 'rewards' for more important things...like getting DD to wear her Halloween costume

We praised praised praised but we also gave stickers for pee and I got a bunch of stuff in the dollar section at target filled a bag and when he pooped he got to picked something from the bag.

When our ped urged us to start potty training at 12m, he told us to use rewards and that will work.
Well we aren't really "training" just making potty available and helping him get on it, if he asks
He's get a potty candy of his choice of color for pee and poop (its gummy bear).
Just trying to make it positive and fun, he's only 19m but he does something on the potty 1-2 times a day. I really don't care that he's trained right now, just that he sees it as positive thing.
I think if we where desperate to get him trained at 3-4y or something like that, I might not do the candy thing, just praise. I have known 4 year olds that will pee on the potty 4 times an hour for candy.

DD#1 was more into goldfish/pretzels/puffs than chocolate or candy. I made a bag of M&Ms, skittles, puffs, graham crackers, pretzels, and goldfish and I kept one at home and one in the diaper bag. If she went on the potty she got to pick out of the bag what kind of treat she wanted.

This is why we stopped food rewards with DD#1. She literally was asking to go potty every 10 mins. Not only was it causing her to have too many snacks, she was starting to get red and raw from wiping down there so often. We then moved on to stickers.
