Eye Floaters

I'm 35 weeks pregnant w/ twins and this morning I noticed floaters, that looked like little white/clear lights floating in front of my face for about 2 minutes. I've been on bed rest due to swelling, but today I noticed that I'm really not swollen. I was just at the doctor on Thursday and my BP was fine.

Did anyone ever experience anything like this before?

Re: Eye Floaters

I have had a floater in my eye since I was 13 and it's annoying but I would ask my doctor since it's new for you. It's probably nothing to worry about but if it makes you feel better, call!

I've had them for years. It started with one speck and now there are two or three and one that's like a long strand. I notice that it all depends on my environment whether or not they bother me. If I'm in a bright white room or driving and the sky is kinda bright I might notice them more. Most of the time I don't really notice them.

I get them, but they're associated with migraines for me and also come with blind spots. If I get the floaters, I usually get a terrible migraine about half an hour later. Both my primary and opthalmologist attribute them to hormones being out of balance.

I haven't had them since I started my 2nd trimester so I haven't mentioned it to my midwife yet.

Have you asked your OB?

Re: Eye Floaters

Thank you ladies so much. I've been resting all day and it hasn't happened again. I didn't call my OB, because I go to my MFM on Monday.

I didn't have any headache afterwards. I'm having a lot of BH contractions today, but I don't think that is what caused the floaters. Maybe I was a little dehydrated or something.

If it comes back I will call my OB.

Thanks Again! Chat Icon

Re: Eye Floaters

I would watch them and if they continue let your ob know. They can be a sign of high blood pressure.

i have a tonnnn of floaters. i also suffer from migraines but getting the floaters aren't related to the migraines themselves. i've been to a bunch of different doctors and all have said there is nothing wrong with my eyes/blood pressure, it's just an annoyance i've had to get used to.

Please CALL your ob immediately.

I'm not trying to scare you but floaters & visual disturbances during pregnancy is listed on babycenter's symptoms NOT to ignore:
http://www.babycenter.com/signs-of-a-pregnancy-problem

If you experience any out of the ordinary symptoms while pregnant, it warrants a phone call to your ob/gyn.

The very worst case scenario in calling is that you find out nothing is wrong.

i would call and get your BP and urine checked. i had pre-eclampsia and one of the main things they told me to look for was floaters or visual changes. i was 32w and they basically said they would deliver me if i had any changes like that!!

i would def call just to make sure everything else is fine.

What exactly are eye floaters?? Are they something that are in your eye or is it like you think you are seeing dust or a small bug but its not really there.

To the OP. I am sure its nothing to worry about but always better safe then sorry.

its when you think you see small spots (dust or bugs).
during pregnancy it really can be a symptom of some serious conditions. seeing them once is not a big deal but if it starts to happen somewhat frequently, it is definitely something that should be looked into.

however if you are laying down most of the time on bedrest and then get up, you might just have floaters from that too.
