Is it to early to start registering?

I was thinking of going tomorrow to start registering for some stuff. We do plan on finding out gender but most of the big things (stroller, car seat, high chait ect.) I will be registering for in neutral patterns. I figured I could start tomorrow and then once we find out gender we could go back and finish up. Should I hold off or can I go tomorrow?

I started pretty early. There is a lot of stuff and you need to really research and figure out what works best, this takes time. By starting early you will be able to do this and not feel overwhelmed. Plus it is fun to register Chat Icon Chat Icon

I say it's never too early. Gives you more time to research things, and if you want something at least it's already there. I just wouldn't tell anyone you know yet that you have one. That's what I did.

Re: Is it to early to start registering?

I registered a few weeks after we found out what we were having... just because I was scared of the registry stuff and didn't know anything at all!!

Register whenever you feel comfortable and at whatever time makes it easiest for you!!

I cannot wait to find out what you are having Christina!!! ahhh!!!!

I went at 14wks and I thought that was way early, even at the time. I was just excited to get started. Obviously do what you're comfortable with though!!

Re: Is it to early to start registering?

I started right after my amnio at 17 weeks. We wanted to wait until then cause I figured I'd find out the gender at the amnio appt but they were unable to see from the sono so I had to wait the week for the test results. We registered for the big stuff and then I finished last weekend at 20 weeks. My shower is early so I had to get it done because the invites are going out next week.

I went with my sister to BRU at around 17 weeks just for some research. I found the stuff that I liked (the big stuff) and went home and read all of the reviews. DH and I went back a couple weeks later and started the registry.

I haven't even started yet. I just got the Baby Bargains book yesterday and I plan on starting next weekend. We have our 20 week sono on Tuesday. For me I wanted to wait to make sure everything was ok. It's what ever makes you feel comfortable.

Re: Is it to early to start registering?

its never too early i guess but i'd not tell anyone you've registered until you are done with it - i know we changed our minds so many times on what we'd put on there, and we had switched items from BRU to BBB when we found them cheaper at the other stores..
it took us several weeks of going back and forth and many trips to get the registries complete, so if you want to start early i see no reason not to!

i want to say we started around 24ish weeks? i just wanted to make sure we were done by the time the shower invites were going out

I waited until 20 weeks. But, I started reading Baby Bargains and doing some online research so I'd be prepared when the time came.

I started an amazon registry after my first trimester, just so I could record all the things I liked. No one knew about it and I kept it "private" so no one could search for it. I then transferred a lot of the items to a store registry when we found out the gender at 20 weeks. Hth!

The only reason I would say to wait is if they discontinue items and things like that.

I started one online around 15 weeks and then went to the store around 22 weeks to look at the actual items

I really liked doing the big ticket items online because I was able to read reviews first. just looking at the items in the store didn't tell me anything and its gets overwhelming!

I say start one online

Re: Is it to early to start registering?

I started reading Baby Bargains and talking to BTDT moms and started planning out the big ticket items early. I registered online at BBB to add/change/delete a million times in the beginning.
I would go to BBB and look around and then go back online to update. This was all early on.

I didn't register at the place with the scanner until after we found out the sex, but at the point all my big ticket items were already on the registry...It was just the little things.

So i say start researching and adding whenever. I changed my mind a lot in the beginning, but it made it easier for me to TAKE MY TIME and START EARLY!

it's sooo fun!

Oh, but dont let anyone know about it this early...again,we changed our minds A LOT in the beginning. I used it more for myself to be organized.

I agree, they discontinue things all the time. I had to check my registry all the time and change things. I believe I registered after my 20 week appointment.

Re: Is it to early to start registering?

Thanks everyone, we decided to go yesterday and start. I am so glad we did, after about an hour I was exhausted! I couldn't imagine doing it all in one day and I really cannot fathom going when I'm much more pregnant. Once we find out gender I'll finish everyhting up and then just monitor it online and change as I need to if I need to.

Thanks again!
