I think that's a very nice and polite way to phrase it. I have never heard of bringing a date, male or female, to a baby shower!

I would absolutely have your sister email her and tell her sorry for the misunderstanding, but the invitation was just for her - and with space limited it has to stay that way.
I find it really b@llsy when people just automatically think they can bring extra people to an event only they are invited to.

I think you should have your sister or whoever is planning the shower/RSVP person call her or email her back exactly what you said. Dont get involved if you dont have to. It will save you further aggrivation.

I agree with the pp's.. have your sister tell her exactly what you said. It's rather rude of this person to just tag her partner along to these events when clearly she was the only one invited.. I would have given her the benefit of misunderstanding it but even after your friend mentioned that it to her.. its pretty rude and ballsy..
