If your vehicle has a backup camera

Do you trust it? Do you use it?

I just purchased a new vehicle last week with a backup camera built into the navigation screen.

I hate backing up because its an SUV and Ive never owned anything other than a midsize car but Im having a hard time trusting this backup screen.

I glance at it to make sure nobody is behind the car, but i still use my mirrors and turn around when backing up, like I used to without the camera. It def took me a little while to get used to!!

I just got an SUV w/a backup camera a little over a week ago & I don't trust it fully. I'm "quick checking" it more & more, but it doesn't cover left & right and when I'm backing out of my driveway I really need to know if a car is coming! I do like that it beeps if I get too close to something (like my dh's car), so I listen to those beeps lol

I use it to make sure no one is directly behind me, but I still check left and right.

I've had several people walk behind my car after i've checked the screen and sides of my car. Once I hear the beeping I stop. I've also had people speed past my car in a parking lot after checking it. It is an added bonus to have that camera beeping if someone is trying to cut past me at the last minute.

I use it to check if people are coming and when backing out of spots to see how close I am to things. But I could never soley rely on it. I still look around and check with my own eyes. Same with the Blind spot monitoring systems, Even if its not blinking/beeping i still turn my head and check!

i have one and still basically do what i normally would have done without one.
i use it to guide me to make sure theres no one standing behind my car or if i am getting too close to another car or something else so i dont hit it.

we just bought a murano and the best thing my dh likes is the camera...i swear he backs up o purpose just to use it

I use my mirrors when I am backing up... after I have turned around and looked all around me.

The only thing I use the backup camera for is to help me see how close I am to my garage or another car. I actually can't look at it while I am backing up because I am so used to looking in my mirrors.

love it! i still use my mirrors as well, so this is just an added bonus in my book to make me feel a little more confident than before when backing up.

Have it, would never buy another truck without it. Or any vehicle I ever buy, if I could choose it, I would.

You can literally stop on a dime when using it. It is very accurate and very helpful. Of course you should always look out your back and side windows also, but it just another tool to help you see down lower, directly behind your car. They work amazingly, you can see down to the floor. Love it, best invention.

I love it! I use it for the most part but always check my mirrors and over my shoulders as well. I have had a couple of close calls with blind spots so I am a little neurotic

Im thinking this is just something I will get used to as time goes on. Although Im sure I will always continue to check all windows and mirrors because Im just too paranoid.

Yes Love mine!!! do you know how many times there were little kids behind my car when I would back up. No way i could see them with just my mirrors. I got so used to it that i cant park without it.

Your suppose to still use mirror and your head to see back there. The camera is another feature to ensure something small or trying to get really close to something.

I use it all the time. I drove my DH's car the other day and really missed it. Of course I still look to the right and left when backing up, but I totally trust it for directly behind the car. Why wouldnt you?

I've had a backup camera and sensors on the last 3 vehicles we've had. I love it.

However, I do not rely on it for backing out of spots. I ALWAYS turn around to check that no one is walking across my path before I take my foot off the brake.

I trust if fully for parking.

i love the camera but i still turn and use the mirrors. I get worried that im not getting a clear view of the back corners.

but for parking- esp. parallel parking its amazing...

I backup using my mirrors, then check the camera screen for kids/pedestrians, then mirrors again. It's a great feature, however I liked the sensors that beeped as I got close to something better- I wish my car had both :)

I use it but I still look because if for example I'm backing out of the driveway, if there is a car coming down the block, the picture from the camera seems like it picks up pretty wide, but when I turn around the car is there that I wouldn't have seen on the camera. Its pretty useful, but not to be trusted 100%
