Do you ever feel your baby's whole body "shake"?

I love any feeling of the baby inside me, but I just want to see if anyone else ever feels their baby's whole body "startle" or "shake". I can only imagine it's like a newborn baby startling awake. Or maybe the baby is dreaming (a bad dream?) and startles awake? I don't even know if that's possible! Can unborn babies HAVE bad dreams?

I've felt this twice in the past week or so.

I read that you should tell the doctor if you feel any violent movement, but I don't know if this is classified as "violent movement". The baby's movements go back to normal afterwards. In fact, right now, he has the hiccups again! Chat Icon

I'll ask my doc at my next appt, but just curious if anyone else feels these types of movements.

does this correspond with a loud or sudden movement? my mother always says when she was pregnant with me and my brother and there was a sudden movement the baby would get startled.

i didn't feel this when i was pregnant with DD but now that she's here she definitely gets startled... her hands fly up in the air and legs straighten, etc. sometimes it's just due to a slight touch or a sound that's not even too loud. maybe that's what you are feeling?

Does it almost feel as if the baby is having a seizure? I know, I know that's a terrible thought but it's the most accurate way I found to describe it.

My OB (and I think other women have had the same experience) said that it happens when the baby turns over, like makes a full rotation left to right or whatever. It's soooo strange but my OB said I had nothing to worry about. And DS and DD were perfectly healthy Chat Icon

Yes, I've felt it!

I had trouble feeling the baby move last Tuesday until about 4PM, and then I drank some oj and lied down and felt some small movements. By Wed. it was back to normal. When I was at my OB appointment on Friday, he told me that as long as things go back to normal, not to worry about something that happened a day ago. It's only if they DON'T go back to normal that you have to worry. So as long as your baby is hiccuping and moving like normal now, don't stress about something you felt yesterday.

This is exactly what I was saying to DH last night.... the babys entire body shakes almost feels like its having a seizure. Im 36 weeks, and Ive had this happen a few times over the last few weeks, however, movements have always gone back to normal.

Glad to hear it... thank you!

Yes... the "seizure" description is pretty accurate - although it's only a brief shudder and doesn't last more than 2 seconds or so.

Both times I felt it weren't following any type of loud noise. In fact, one was while I was sleeping one morning and was woken up by that "startled" baby movement.

Since baby's movements went back to normal each time, I wasn't too concerned. I will ask my doc to be sure on Thursday. I see my doctor every week and they take so many measurements and views of the baby, so I feel like they would have seen anything that needed to be addressed. But I'll still double check this week.

Thank you! As long as the movement is safe and "normal" and doesn't mean anything is "wrong", I love feeling the baby move that much! Chat Icon
