Can you wear contacts, rings, etc. in L & D?

Hi! Just wondering if you can wear contact lenses, make up and wedding rings in L & D? I know this is a silly question but I am so used to wearing contacts I may get a headache if I wear my glasses. Are you not supposed to wear make up in case you need an emergency C section?

I remember I had contacts on but no rings. Not sure about the make up...I don't see why not.

Makeup is fine, but I have heard (correct me if I am wrong) that you shouldn't wear dark nail polish because they need to check your nail beds? My mother told me this, so not sure how true it is haha

def. not a silly question. These are all thing i wasn't allowed to wear or have when I had previous surgeries. Thanks for asking.

I was in L&D for a long time with my contacts, red nail polish, and wedding rings.

Then I was told I needed a c/s - and no one even asked me if I had contacts on, did not ask me to remove the polish, or mention taking the rings off.

To be totally honest, none of the responses on this thread will really help you because it will depend on your hospital and the doctor. One might be strict and demand that you take out the contacts and others might not care.

I had my jewelry (rings, necklace, earrings) on in L/D and went I went in for c-section no one said anything...except half way through the anesthesiologist said "why is everyone still wearing earrings today?". No one answered him!


ETA: the nail polish rule is old from when the equipment was older. The updated pulse-ox should be able to read through the polish!

Thanks everyone! I will keep in the contacts since I feel more comfortable in them and dont need a headache too on top of everything else that will be going down!!

I was told to take off jewelry during my first delivery. I only had earrings on. this time I took everything off before I left for hospital. I didn't wear contacts because I was concerned my eyes would dry out. They often do so I just wore my glasses. I had to take them off once they put te oxygen mask on me.

i wasnt wearing my wedding rings by then but they asked me to tke off my necklace just because they arent responsible for lost items.

they asked me bout my contacts and suggested i take them out just because they may dry out over time but i chose to leave them in. and i had make up on

I was told to take my rings off ... good thing too, bc I swelled pretty badly from the IV and they definitely would've gotten stuck.
