toddler moms...anyone feel weirded out by their kid
this is such a strange age.
is he big?
is he small?
is he seriously DOING that?
did he just SAY that?
should I pick him up? should he man up and walk?
baby age is clearly defined. as is school age. but this in between age has me freaking out.
am I the only one? probably.

Yes!!
All the time. Especially this one "should I pick him up? should he man up and walk? " I tell DH we have to tell him to walk b/c he's always putting his arms up to be picked up. I'm 9 months pregnant so he's gotta start walking on his own more.
Like Linda, I'm finding out he's learning so much in daycare that it totally shocks me what he'll say, count or even point out letters.

Weird isn't the word I would use...............more like, amazed. I am honestly amazed at DD's capacity to learn, speak, and be her own little person. She's just amazing. I never expected that at such a young age she could be as talkative, imaginative, sweet, and well mannered as she is. It's simply.....well, amazing!

I am amazed too - I try to talk to him to teach him things (thinking we should "start") and most of the time he knows it already.
He's such a little sponge.

Re: toddler moms...anyone feel weirded out by their kid
there are things that Jack does that show he's still a baby; there are things he does that show he just wants to be a big kid. IT is a weird stage.
I said to him "what does jack want for dinner" he says "peesa" (Pizza); and for breakfast he'll say "cookie" gggreeeeeattt. He can pick out colors, tell me red car from black car, white car, etc., loves to watch school buses, and yesterday when i put him up to bed in our room, i sit and read for a little while; he went over to my dresser, took my magazines off and handed them to me b/c he knows i sit there and read them.
but then he'll bang his hand and be a phoney and cry like a baby for attention.

Re: toddler moms...anyone feel weirded out by their kid
I amazed by everything she does every day she makes me smile all the time. On Monday she showed me that she can sit on the potty and do # 1 and 2 and she just turned 1 on May 22. She likes to take off her diaper and run around free so I see her making the face when she has to do # 2 so I say oh no she will start going before the diaper is on i sit her on the toilet and sure enough she did her business and reached out for me to pick her up when she was done (by the way i held her the whole time she was sitting on the toilet not crazy enough to let her go. I tell you this really is a new generation of kids they are very smart and so advanced.

I don't mean that their capacity to learn is weird.
I mean this stage in between baby and child is weird.
I am of course amazed by all the cool stuff he does. but, I feel like he should still be a BABY. I have weirded out and having a hard time wrapping my head around it.

I totally get that. Sometimes within a span of a few minutes i'll say to her "you can't do that you're just a baby" to one thing AND "you can do it you're a big girl" to something else. I catch myself doing that and I think the same thing, is she still a baby (to me YES!) or a big girl (well she is almost 2!).

Re: toddler moms...anyone feel weirded out by their kid
Yes, DH thinks I'm spoiling the crap out of Colin. Poor Colin. He has 3 more months to be the baby. And it makes me sad b/c with Ryan, he was my only child - not necessarily the role of "the baby" But Colin is the younger one - he is my "baby" and I want him to get that time while it's here So when I'm starting to literally get weighed down and DH tells me to let Colin walk or do something on his own, I know he is totally capable, but he wants to be the baby, and I want to let him be The funniest, confusing part of him is how he copies all that Ryan does. I get the big boy version of something and then Colin's version Ryan will tell us a joke, we'll all laugh - Colin laughs along. And 2 seconds later Colin yammers something - he tries to tell us his own joke. Every other word makes sense, and then he'll bust out laughing
