Thoughts on using sunscreen when baby is days away from being 6 months?

I used sunscreen on DS when he was three months old. My Ped felt it was more important for me to protect his skin from sun.

Thanks, all! I did use it. I did put it on her face, though. Was that ok? I made sure to steer clear of hands, but I did do a little swipe down the tops of her feet and made sure to keep them out of her mouth for a while. Maybe I should have skipped feet all together.  We used Neutrogena Pure and Free Baby Sunscreen. SPF 50. Did a little patch test first. When we came home, I gave her a bath to rinse it all off. I appreciate all the answers! I felt much better being out. I still kept her under the shade of course and had her hat on, but I just felt MUCH better about her having the protection. I think sometimes as mamas we just need to go with what we think is right!

If it's only days away I think it's fine.
I think 6 months is a general guideline.
I don't think anything magically happens the day they turn 6 months where it's suddenly safe.
I think you are close enough.

I was always under the impression that the main reason they tell you to wait until 6 months is because they don't want people taking younger infants out in the sun for long periods of time thinking its okay because they have sunscreen/sunblock on. Of course there is also the issue with their skin being sensitive when they are too little. But in your case, I think its fine and you made the right call.
